CG itself will not harm your grass or the environment. I and hundreds of other blasters use CG outdoors. The only harm will be if it is allowed to pile or collect enough to cover your grass. ProductExpert10 is correct in that you should always take your surroundings into account. Cover items that you do not want to be covered in a layer of CG. Rinsing with water will easily remove the dust.

It would not be safe to sandblast outdoors. An outdoor blasting system or tarps to cover the sandblasting area would be recommended to reclaim the media.

The Spec sheet says 40 x 80 grit. Does that mean this is a mixed grit? Is it 40 or is it 80?
-
BigBilly78· 4 years ago
40-80 reflects the standard mesh sizes that all of the particulates in the bag will fit through, so the largest bits of glass will fit through a 40 mesh and the smallest will be stopped by an 80 mesh screen.
US standard mesh names indirectly tell you the size of the mesh openings by naming how many fit in a square inch. Like most imperial units, it made sense at some point in the past and has some intuitive appeal once you get to know it, but it’s really difficult to convert units when that becomes necessary.
In other words, you should be unable to find any bits larger than 0.0165 inches in diameter or smaller than 0.007 inches

how is this different from glass beads which is much more expensive?
-
DaveinMichigan· 8 years ago
It takes off paint and rust quicker. The surface is nearly as smooth as with glass beads but removal is better. I blast at a 45 to 60 degree angle to get the fastest removal with the smoothest surface.

Glass bead media is small and round without sharp edges giving a more bright, smooth finish. Blasting time will increase when using glass beads versus crushed glass. Crushed glass will provide a more etched finished with consistent striping. Crushed glass media breaks down more easily making collection and reuse difficult.

Good general-purpose media?
Would this be a good general purpose media for a blasting cabinet? I'm primarily looking to remove paint and rust from steel items as thin as an engine oil pan to as thick as 3/8".
-
Dicktheplumber· 9 years ago
I have used this for stripping wheels, steel valve covers and old horns + just about anything that will fit in your blast cabinet. I would wear a mask when using blaster and you should have a decent vacuum attached. This is all i've used in my cabinet for several years.

You can use the medium glass abrasive as a good general purpose media in most blasting cabinets depending on the material you are going to be cleaning.

Will this blast off powder coating on rims
1 answer-
ProductExpert11· 10 months ago
For a more aggressive way to remove powder coating off steel, you will use aluminum oxide or coal slag. For a more desired finish, you may use glass bead.

Is the medium grit comparable to a #8 grit? I was told to use a #8 for cleaning pool tiles but northern tool does not carry the fine grade in store. Will these be too aggressive or clog my tips smaller than 1/8?
1 answer-
ProductExpert6· a year ago
The medium grade crushed glass media is #8 grit.
