Just look at the picture, only the top ( Back rest) folds. The seat stays where it is. Just lock into place takes 10 secounds for my 8 year old grandaughter to convert. How fast is that? Easy? You bet!!!

You would need two of these 2x4 Basics Flip Top BenchTables to make a picnic table. You would not lose any seating by opening for a table.

How long can I make
it
-
TheWildHandyman· 13 years ago
You can make these benches as long as the length of wood you are able to find. If you are going to make the bench longer than 8 feet, however, you will need to use an additional bench/table support as a center support. I make my bench/table 8 feet long, the maximum length recommended with two supports, and the bench/table was nice and sturdy.

The kit Model #90110 is for one bench only so you would need two kits for you to make a picnic table, as for how long the kit instructions are for 8ft. long 2x4's. As for me I made my two kits with 4ft. long 2x4's; So I have two benches and when I joint them together I have a picnic table.

Each slide lock fits into the rail (lock slot) that's located in the middle of the pivots. A diagram that shows positioning and assembly is on the first page of the owner's manual. Click the link that's located below the "Product Summary" section to view the product manual.

Does the frame come in other colors, or can it be painted?
-
wdwrkr51· 11 years ago
Painting will require a special effort, since these parts are made of a plastic "polyresin". Even then, there is no guarantee the paint will adhere to the plastic indefinitely. I would scuff or sand every surface to be painted, wipe with a cloth soaked with mineral spirits or toluene, then spray paint with a paint primer intended for plastics. Finally, top-coat with a spray paint intended for plastics. Good luck!

This bench table only comes in the one color. It can be painted with a paint that will work on polyethylene.

how deep is the seat?
the bench without a back looks like it uses 4 2x4s but this looks like it uses 3. With standard 2x4s how deep would the seat be?
-
ableamputee· 10 years ago
The seat does take 3 2x4's which sounds narrow, but it was comfortable for all the rears in my family.

Why can't I use more then one bench kit to make up a longer bench or table ????
-
CurmudeonDoug· 12 years ago
You probably could use extra leg kits to extrapolate benches out to any lumber length. The only problem I could foresee is the pass through design of the lower member might bind up after a few feet, but barring that there would seem to be no problem.

-
ProductExpert5· 13 years ago
That is an option. You can use 2 bench kits to make a full size picnic table.

Can you use composite boards and what size would you recommend?
-
fred34· 12 years ago
I would not recommend it. Composite boards don't have the same strength. You will most likely getting sagging.

-
ProductExpert6· 13 years ago
The use of composite boards would not be recommended. The maximum length of 2 x 4 you can use would be 8 foot.

Are the lower leg pieces cut shorter than the seat and back? If so by how much?
1 answer-
ProductExpert38· 3 years ago
These should be cut flush to the end of the holes in the bench legs. The length will depend on how long you make your bench/table. See the online manual on the product page for additional instructions.
