Parallel Generator Setup
PARALLEL OPERATION: WHY TWO GENERATORS ARE BETTER THAN ONE

If projects and electrical outages are demanding more power than your generator can provide, there are two basic options: Invest in a larger (and likely more expensive) generator or use parallel operation. Parallel operation may sound technically complicated, but it simply means connecting two similar generators together with cables. A parallel connection produces up to double the power plus a longer run time. In addition to considerable cost savings, the benefits of paralleling two generators compared to buying a higher-wattage generator include less noise and greater portability.
COMPATIBILITY IS KEY
The process of connecting generators for parallel operation is easy as long as your generators meet two conditions: Both generators must have parallel ports, and both need to be compatible. There are specifics involved to ensure error-free compatibility, but it basically means both generators need to be similar in voltage, frequency and polarity. If your generator is equipped with parallel ports, refer to your generator’s owner’s manual for specific instructions and requirements. Keep in mind, if generators being paralleled are not compatible, you could risk damaging equipment. Some generator brands can only be paralleled with the same model generator. Other brands offer a bit more flexibility, only requiring generators used have the same essential specs.

QUICK AND EASY
Once compatibility has been confirmed, simply plug parallel cables into the parallel ports on each generator. It’s that easy. See your generator’s owner’s manual for detailed instructions. Now you are ready to enjoy the benefits of parallel operation: greater power, efficiency, reliability and peace of mind.
