Make your personal or professional painting projects quick and easy with a paint sprayer from Northern Tool + Equipment. We carry quality paint sprayers from our favorite brands: Wagner and Titan. There are three types of paint sprayers to choose from in our selection. Read on to determine which paint sprayer is best for your project!
Airless Paint Sprayers A popular choice for painting fences, decks, shutters, and other exterior surfaces in addition to interior walls and ceilings. Airless sprayers eject paint at high pressure, which allows droplets to fan out and coat surfaces evenly and efficiently. Of the three sprayer types, airless paint sprayers are best suited for thick paint.
Pneumatic Air Paint Sprayers This type of sprayer requires compressed air to apply paint. They are used most frequently to paint cabinets and furniture as they produce a smooth and even finish. Two things to consider before purchasing a pneumatic air paint sprayer: of the three sprayer types, they produce the most overspray and use more paint. However, they are often less expensive than airless and HLVP sprayers.
HLVP Paint Sprayers HLVP sprayers are ideal for indoor painting projects and are the least wasteful of paint. Their efficient design makes them more costly, but their smooth finish is highly desired. They should not be used for applying thick paint, lacquers, or varnish.

Paint Sprayers Frequently Asked Questions:

What is the difference between airless and HVLP paint sprayers?
Both styles deliver excellent results. An airless paint sprayer uses a piston to pressurize paint while a HVLP (High Volume Low Pressure) paint sprayer uses air pumped from an air compressor. Airless paint sprayers are considered less efficient when it comes to paint delivery but allow the use of thicker paint, and are better suited for larger jobs. Though they generally cost a little more, HVLP paint sprayers offer greater control with less overspray and are ideal for smaller jobs requiring more precision.
How do I clean and maintain my paint sprayer equipment?
Refer to your owner’s manual for the most accurate instructions. General considerations after a painting job include: empty paint from the sprayer and hose. Place suction hose in a bucket of warm water if latex paint was used or in paint thinner or mineral spirits for oil-based paints. Operate the sprayer until there is no sign of paint. Remove and clean all filters, nozzles and paint sprayer gun.
Can I use any type of paint with a paint sprayer?
Paint sprayers allow the use of a wide variety of paints, including latex, oil-based, acrylic, enamel and more, but some may require thinning for optimum performance.
Do I need to wear protective gear when using a paint sprayer?
A face mask and goggles are recommended when using a paint sprayer. Clothing to protect skin or clothing from overspray are optional.
How do I adjust the spray pattern and flow rate on my paint sprayer?
Pressure control and material flow settings help you achieve the best results for your paint type and project. Test the spray pattern on a board or a piece of drywall or cardboard first. Adjust as necessary to get the desired effect.
