Handheld Grinder Wheel
Interchangeable accessories are what make angle grinders such a versatile tool. Here at Northern Tool + Equipment, customers can choose from a wide variety of grinder wheels, cutoff discs, buffing wheels and more from top brands including Klutch, Norton, and Milwaukee.
Grinding wheels are an excellent tool for not only grinding, but also welding prep, surface cleaning, sharpening, and material removal. Grinding discs, like sandpaper, are measured by grit. Low grit discs being coarser while high grit discs are softer and suited for finer jobs. While some grinder wheels are rated for specific materials, general purpose discs can be used on a variety of materials including stone, aluminum, PVC, ceramic, and stainless steel, among others.
To cut material with an angle grinder, you will need a cutoff disc. Most often they are used for cutting bolts, welds, and bars or sheets of metal. Cutoff discs are thinner than grinding wheels, which increases the precision of the cut but also makes them more dangerous to work with. Any bend or improper positioning of the tool can cause them to shatter. As always, we recommend using this tool only when wearing proper PPE. One last thing to consider when shopping for cut off discs is the type of disc desired. There are two categories: T1 and T27. Discs marked T1 are completely flat and considered the most efficient for general purposes. The flat profile is also helpful for creating 90° cuts. A T27 disc is depressed in the center which provides operators with additional security and a better view of the cut.
After you have cut and ground the material you are working with, you may want to polish it. Luckily, Northern carries buffing wheels and other polishing accessories within our selection of handheld grinder attachments. Find the right wheel for your project by filtering out selection by application, disc type, wheel diameter, or wheel thickness.
