Drywall knives, also called putty knives or scrapers, are used to apply and spread mud over seams between drywall panels. Northern's selection includes plastic and metal drywall knives in a variety of sizes to accommodate the size and shape of the space being worked on. Rigid putty knives are ideal for applying initial mud coats, while wider and more flexible taping knives should be used for smoothing mud to produce a fine finish. Drywall knives are used in conjunction with mud pans which contain and carry excess mud as contractors work to coat seams. Corner knives are constructed of the same material as other putty knives but make the job of mudding corners faster and easier with their 90° angle blade.
Keyhole saws, also known as jab saws or drywall utility saws, look like a serrated kitchen knife. Most are 6-8 inches in length and are used to carve small shapes out of drywall panels for electrical outlets and light switches.
