Coring Drills

Diamond Core Drills

Diamond Core Drills

Easily make clean holes through tough materials like concrete, cement and more with core drills. These core drills deliver precision and performance. Coring drills are among the most robust of tools. These heavy-duty units are designed to drill immense holes in hard materials including concrete, brick, and/or stone for purposes such as utility conduit, core sampling, and more. Here at Northern Tool + Equipment, we carry coring drills and core drill stands from top-rated brands Milwaukee and Husqvarna.

Criteria to consider prior to purchasing a coring drill include size, location of use, frequency of use, and fastening mechanism. In terms of size, just keep in mind that higher voltage tools are better suited for deeper drilling. Water is always helpful for diamond core drilling as it reduces friction, noise, and heat, but wet core drills should be used outdoors rather than in due to the mess it produces. Dust is much easier to clean from indoor spaces which is why a dry core drill is a better choice for indoor use. If you need a coring drill for professional applications where frequency of use is high, opt for a fixed core drill over portable. Both Husqvarna and Milwaukee offer handheld options suitable for small scale needs and less frequent use.

Coring drills can be fastened three ways. Bolt fastening offers the most precise drilling and can provide users with the ability to mount the tool either horizontally or vertically. Vacuum fastening is another option for securing a core drill, but is possible only on smooth, non-porous surfaces. The third option is called strut mounting which involves an aluminum strut or other form of framing to secure the drill and eliminates the need to attach it to another surface. Strut mounting is popular due to the benefit of portability between jobsites. Once you have selected your ideal coring drill or rig, be sure to check out our selection of diamond cores!
