Mower Belts
There is no specific time length within which a mower belts need to be replaced. Some belts last longer due to the different operating conditions. The more the mower is used, the sooner you will need to replace the mower belt. How can I tell if my mower belt is worn and needs replacing? Maintenance is always easier and cheaper than replacement or large repairs. Mower belts are susceptible to cracking, they deteriorate over time. Even if the cracks are small, it is a sign that the belt could break and should be replaced. Mower belts should have smooth side walls. If they are damaged with nicks or tears, it is more likely that the belt will soon break. As the mower and subsequently the belt, continues to get used, it will wear down. Keep and eye on the side wall of the belt to see if it looks burned or glazed. This is another sign that your belt needs to be replaced.
To change your mower belt, start by using one of our handy lawn mower lifts. Remove the mower deck. Turn the idler arm counterclockwise, lefty loosey, to release tension from the belt, then remove the belt. Install the new belt around the drive sheaves under the ramp, except for the idler sheave. Turn the belt around the idler arm, counterclockwise, and put the belt onto the sheaves. If you don’t want to do this yourself, where can you find lawn mower service near you?
