3-Point Category 1

Category classifications for three-point hitches are for pieces of equipment like plows, mowers, rakes, scoops and tillers. Category 0 is typically used for garden tractors, machines with less than 20 horsepower. The pins have a diameter of 5/8in. and 20in. of space between the lower arms. Category 1 is for compact tractors with 20 to 45 horsepower. The hitch pins have a diameter of 7/8in. and 26in. between the lower arms. Category 2 Has pins with a diameter of 1-1/8in. and 32in. between the lower arms. These are for larger tractors with 40 to 100 horsepower, and for heavier implements. Categories 3 or 4+ are larger and paired with 180 to 400 horsepower tractors. A mismatch of power can lead to damage and safety concerns.
