Northern Industrial Hand Press Pump
Pump works as I needed, good pump for the price. I use the pump for checking water supply in new shallow wells only so I am not sure how it will hold up with regular often use.

We wanted a backup pump for the well that our sprinklers use. It has an electric pump and we wanted availability to the water after a hurricane. The pump is made of heavy cast iron and appears to be well built. We installed it and tried it for a while and it worked just fine. I see no problem with it doing the job we bought it for.

Husband Pleased with Pump as a Gift
Great pump for the price - just want we were looking for - nothing fancy - does the job. Strong - doesn't take many pumps to keep water level where we want it!

shallow well pump
Mechanically, it is a cheap steal casting. For the price, it is worth it. But don't expect Antique Quality performance you get from 100-200dollar models. The interior is rough cast metal that the pump gasket and diaphram works. The rubber gasket ones that come with it break down quickly and you need to replace with the leather. Overall, it's worth the 30-40bucks. Looks great.

A very good pump.
I have purchased two of this pump. It is very well built but I also bought sets of Leather Valves and Cups to extend the usefulness of the pumps. The Valves and Cups that come with this pump will not last very long so be prepared to replace them. I have used pumps of this sort since my childhood and may I say that if power goes so does most peoples water. I never had to consider this until lately as I see the US changing as well as the rest of the world. What is on the horizon?
I also like the fact that these pumps are very long lasting when properly understood and used accordingly.

I ordered several pumps, worried they'd be difficult to assemble and dirty to the touch. Rather, I found them to be clean, of high and durable quality, well packed, and with picture instructions containing clear and concise directions. In less than 5 minutes, I had my first one ready for use. That was a nice surprise! They not only met my expectations, but surpassed them. I highly recommend them.

get what you pay for
Not horrible or unusable; but close. Obvious cheap mass production. The inside of the cylinder is rough and the gasket does not seal well. The rubber gasket wears quickly and losses what little seal it had. Replacement seals are not available. I replaced mine with homemade leather and it functions adequately. Also, it is manufactured in China and there is nothing that states if the paint is safe for drinking water or not.

hand press pump
i purchased this pump to use at my camp in northern nh.i have it mounted on a wooden base and is piped about 50 feet away from the well.i use it to fill my holding tank on my camper and works very good. for the price for this pump it is well worth it and would recommend this product to anyone looking for a reasonable priced pump that works nicely.

Although this pump looks good, it has several issues that make it less then usefull for a shallow well.
1) It does not connect to a normal 1 1/4" pipe so some kind of adapter needs to be added. Very hard to do and keep good suction.
2) Inside of the cylinder is really rough. Also the rubber does not fit the cylinder very well. I am going to a pump with leather gaskets. Again, hard to keep good suction.
3) Does not have a Can't Freeze drain feature so the pump and pipe can not be drained by lifting the handle.
This pump might be fine for decoration or in a barrel. but for a shallow well, I am going to something with leathers and more standard pipe fitting. Worth the $10-$15 extra. I would bring this back except I purchase last fall and just installed the well this spring.
