Poorly working unit
I purchased this unit just a week ago and I have not been pleased with it. I realize that media is a difficult thing to control, but despite the compressor size 4CFM or 12CFM I have been unable to get reliable service. The unit blows air great, but despite adjusting valve, nozzle and changing media it does not sandblast for more than 10 seconds if at all.
In addition, the nozzle stops (rubber) wear out almost instantly (3-5 minutes of use) and there are only two in the box. I went to Northern Supply and they don't stock them locally, so you have to wait 10 days to get replacements assuming your system works at all.
I bought the unit to restore a car, but it has not lived up to even this light duty work. I will be going back to Northern Supply for an upgrade.

Good light use sand blaster
No problems. Nice heavy build. Worked every time. Only clogged once. A little difficult to adjust because control is under tank, especially with gloves on. Sandblasted auto rims, engine, and multiple motorcycle and auto parts without difficulty.
I did go through a lot of ceramic tips. They don't last long.

Abrasive blaster...Not!
I tried to give this blaster the benefit of the doubt but it was just not possible.
All the supplied parts were there and everything went together quickly but using two different kinds of new media, I have never got this blaster to work more than a few minutes before it clogs completely.
I believe the valve on the bottom is the biggest culprit and would probably work better without it.
I am pretty mechanical having spent my adult life as an aircraft mechanic and I can usually make something work but I have put all the effort into this thing and it is going back.

worthless
i brought this boat anchor, it would not work, -answer from Northern- finer media.
i brought finer media- it doesnt work- answer from Northern Tool- buy larger nozzel.
i brought the largest deadman and nozzel they sell- it doesnt work. answer from northern- trry finer media.
brought StarBrite- anything finer would be water-results- it works for 10 to 15 seconds at a time as long as you have someone stand there and shake the unit like a popcorn popper

New and improved
This blaster is completely new from a few years ago.
They improved everything that was wrong with it before.
From the valves to the deadman.
The key to using this tool is still using well prepared media that is clean and dry and turning air pressure on first followed by the media.
This will prevent clogging.
I read the old reviews and those were on the old machines. Northern did a great job on improvements. The new units are the best on the market.
We have tried a number of others and came back to Northern and were surprized and happy with the improvements.
For the money buy this unit.

Great for the homeowner
This was the first time I ever used a media blaster. Have a set of light poles and wrought iron gates that needed to be cleaned and painted. This blaster is perfect for the homeowner. Easy to use -- the media selection is good and I had no trouble. A good buy. -- I'll try it next on the deck with the crushed walnut shells.

Bad Blaster
I bought this blaster a couple of years ago before the deadman was standard with it. Line is constantly clogging as it enters the nozzle. I have tried several different abrasives and still have the same results. Very haard to finish a job when it is constantly clogging.

Good for Hobby/Light duty
This blaster is good for the hobbyist or for light duty jobs. It does, however require quite a bit of air to work effectively (like most blasters), so you can't use it with an air compressor that doesn't move a lot of air. I tried it with a 60 gallon compressor that moves 10 cfm at 90psi, and it didn't really work at all. it wasn't until I hooked it up to an 80 gallon which moves 24 cfm at 90psi that it did what it is supposed to do. Definitely keep that in mind. Also, it has a bunch of cheap plastic parts which break easily, so don't expect to be able to muscle it around. Not bad for the money, I guess, but if you have more to spend and plan to do a lot of blasting...I'd go for something more substantial.

Junk
Im not overly picky but if i could give this blaster zero stars i would - absolute junk. dont make the same mistake that i did and buy the more expensive ALS blaster from the get-go. Northern Tools return department was great and made replacing the product easy.

Not worth the money
The unit clogs easily and is hard to clean. Uses more air than claimed.
