Don't forget the hose
The reel is great - however don't forget to buy a whip hose (2' long) to connect the reel to your pressure washer. Also you will need nuts and bolts to mount the reel to the hose reel mount or whereever else you might think of mounting it.

Hose Reel
This should be sold as a kit by Northern Tool when it's purchased for one of their power washers. I purchased the reel not realizing I need the mount, stand, screws a short pressure washer hose and fittings for installing the reel and hose. The hose does NOT fit on the reel without adapting the fittings. I purchased a 45 degree brass street elbow from a plumbing supply store to make it work. I also needed a new male fitting for the quick disconnect. The mount and hose had to be ordered and I had to pay more shipping when all of this should have been one package. Hopefully Northern tool will read this and try the installation on their washers and make this more user friendly to install.

Hose reel modifications
I gave this reel three stars based on the way it is sold. After modifying it so that it will work properly, I then can say it works great. The problem is that it comes with very little in parts or instructions to complete the installation. I purchased the mounting bracket but it didn't have any mounting bolts and nuts for reel attachment. You'll need 4 ea. 3/8 x 1" bolts with nuts. Then you must purchase the feed hose to go from the pump to the reel. When attaching the hose to the swivel on the reel I realized that this won't work as designed because the hose needs to be fed horizontally into the reels opening and not vertically. Vertical installation causes clearance problems when turning the reel as it will hit the feed hose and also put a strain on the hose. I took some photos of my results and can say that I'm happy with the way this reel works now. I used a male to female adapter, male to female 90 degree, then the male hose fitting to connect the hose. clearance is tight but this worked for me. Be sure to use teflon tape, with 3000 psi or more pressure, leaks are invevitable if not tightened well. Hope this helps with your installation...

northern tool hose reel, good and bad
I received the hose reel as a requested gift and it was on sale. It does mount easy but you have to supply bolts, washers, and nuts. Having the hose on a reel is much better than have it laying everywhere. The major problem is connecting the hose to reel. This hose has a large plastic handle and it makes it very, very difficult to connect. I have been trying to find a 90 deg. fitting and close nipple to perhaps make the connection, but no luck. Hose will kink and thus reduce pressure and shorten its life. I could not find anything that works at the N.T. store.

think something else would work better
the hose reel has too small of a handel on it to reel up the hose. even the reel is too small , and with two 50 foot hoses you have to be careful to put that much on and really its over full.

Awesome set up
I like to pressure wash but hated the task of preparing hoses and attachments. Even disliked more putting away the hose when finished with the job. This is an excellent addition to my overall pressure washing system. Easy installation and absolutely no leaks. Works very well with my 4000 PSI 4GPM Northstar washer. I have owned the washer for more than 10 years and it still works as well as it did on the first day. I also enjoy using my eagle wash surface cleaner. This saves countless hours and cleans just as well as wand cleaning. Please check out my pictures of what I view as the perfect pressure washer system. Not pictured are several other attachments I have purchased such as telescoping wand, fence cleaner, pipe cleaner, and water broom attachments. Northern Tool is truly the one stop shop for any pressure washing needs. Thanks

low profile
Good reel for the money. Have been owning one for 6 years now and it still works great and has never leaked or not performed as expected. Only hang up is its wide reel base. It allows hose to come a little more unwound at the reel seat than you pull off. So, you have to completely unwind the hose and then rewind it back tight to get all of your hose back on neatly. It doesn't backlash from overturning, it just loses contact w;/the reel seat surface if you unwind more than half of the hose. I have a 100ft of hose on mine and have to completely rewind it almost every time, but it reels so quickly and cleanly, that its not that big of a deal. I own the other variety "Quick Reel" as well (own four actually) and they operate just as good as these do but hose stays tighter to the reel seat on the "Quick reels", but you don't get as nice of a "wrap" because of the narrower reel opening. Both are great reels, but I have this one in my home garage because of its lower profile and cleaner look. Can't beat the performance for the price difference. Good Deal!

159187 Reel
Pros
Seems to work well. Makes hose retrieval very easy. Mine is new so I just hope it lasts. It has issues, but does work well.
Cons
Same complaints as everyone else. This is Northern's reel being used on Northern's mounting base. They at least should have given you the attaching bolts. And they at least could have co-ordinated to have the reel bolt holes the same diameter as the base bolt holes it goes to.
Hose to reel connection is a mess. Needs redesign to avoid kinking the hose.

I would not purchase this product
I received this product as a gift and was very unsatisfied from the beginning. The hose has almost a 90 degree kinked where it connects to the reel and does not come with nut and bolts. I disconnected the 3' connection hose and just use it as it states "Reel Hose". I would not recommend this product. Try a different one, but the pressure washer i got from Northern Tool is excellant.
