Best spontaneous buy I've made in a long time
OK, so I have a 6 gal. pancake compressor, and I found myself in the position of having to refinish an exterior patio set or replace it. So on a whim I bought this device after researching it a bit and finding out it was probably at the lower end of acceptable for a 6 gal compressor.
I LOVE this thing. I've refinished the patio set, two dressers, two nightstands, a head board, a louvered door, and several rooms worth of crown and fluted baseboard moulding.
I have used both shellac and lacquer with great success. Latex, not so much luck, despite buying the larger nozzle size. I find that you need to thin latex too much, it didn't look great, and it was a pain in the behind to clean the latex.
Cleaning solvent based paints is very easy, just use the correct solvent. If you've ever had experience with the garbage spray systems sold at your big box stores, you may think that this will be a pain to clean. But I don't find that it takes any time at all to clean this sprayer... there is no hose, a compact unit with a small surface area, and I find the best technique to clean it is to fill the cup with solvent, shake the heck out of it to really mix it all up, and then turn the pressure down low and the fluid volume up high, so that the sprayer puts out a steady stream flow. Gun through about half your solvent cup in this fashion to really clean out the tube and nozzle assembly, then turn the pressure up high and spray a heavy mist. Spray it into a towel as well to wipe down any spills on the tool.
I'm now getting to the point that I'm going to refinish two bathroom cabinets; I'm going to mix my own colored shellac and refinish; and I may go the unfinished route on some new furniture for my young daughter and mix some straight titanium dioxide into furniture grade lacquer.

paint gun
Very low quality construction. The air tube inside the handle is cheap thin aluminum. When i turned the gun the tube twisted and snapped off. The plastic handle is not even attached to the housing. I sprayed 2 oz of paint before I threw the whole thing in the garbage.

WoW !
This is my first spray paint gun and it works great! I used it to spray the deck with no effort. I began with the rails - which are a pain by hand, and completed with the stairs. All - in all - it worked excellent

Work great for heavy bodied paints like latex. Very little over spray .

Excellent sprayer
I've used this gun on spraying oil and pant. It saves time and can cover a lot of diffrent oil or latex paint. I would suggest this for anyone to use.

Wagner Conversion HVLP Gun
This gun was converted from a turbine model to one which will run on your air compressor. The gun will spray a variety of different paints/finishes, from thin lacquers to heavy latex paints. Part of the secret to success is in which needle and nozzle combination you select. (There are four)
The gun ships with a number three, which is suitable for heavier bodied paints, up to a light latex. A very heavy latex requires a next higher size, while finer finish materials go down the scale to the lower sizes. The gun is easy to use as long as it is kept clean. Leave paint or lacquer in it and you'll likely have to tear it all apart for a thorough cleaning.
The other part of the secret is in learning which air pressure to use. I've run this gun on pancake compressors, but the compressor must be quick to build its' pressure back up, otherwise you will reach a point where atomization isn't good, and you'll find yourself constantly fiddling with the air/paint supply knobs in an effort to maintain the same paint film thickness throughout the paint job.
For me, the best pressure is set to about 40 psi leaving the compressor. I set the regulator that comes with the gun so that I maintain 9 psi with the trigger pulled. As you can imagine, the regulator settings will vary from compressor to compressor. And some compressors will run almost constantly trying to keep up, while others cycle off and on and stay reasonably cool.
I use this gun primarily for painting latex paints on wood work, including baseboard and crown, as well as painting doors. While I have actually painted walls with it, I prefer an airless for large areas. If I were going to paint walls with it I would use a pressure pot, as that can runs out pretty quick.
One thing I love about it: You can dial down the diameter of the spray to an inch if you want, and easily paint masked baseboard in homes with carpet installed with little or no overspray once you learn how to adjust it. I have three of these guns now. There is no competitor for this gun as the ones found in home discount hardware stores are junk in comparison. I highly recommend it.
