Great product, but practice, practice, practice.
I've been welding and shaping metal for about 40 years now, strictly as a hobby. I restored cars for fun and profit. Now that I needed to repair the plastic bumper on my everyday car, I decided it was time to learn how to plastic weld. This unit comes with high praise so I ordered one. The product itself is very high quality, and a lot of thought went into it. It also comes with a good set of nearly every kind of plastic repair material you'll need for routine repairs and great instructions.
Now the warning. My metal-welding skills do not buy me a hoot when it comes to plastic welding. The same concepts don't apply at all to plastic welding. It's more like a very fancy welding iron designed to handle plastic, and the plastic is not as predictable -- at least to me. I obtained a wrecked bumper from a similar car and practiced welding. Maybe I'm dumb, but it took me about twenty hours of practice before I could do a consistently decent job.
What do I mean by decent? That it's a strong weld and will hold up. That I didn't do more damage than good. However, it's not pretty ... and requires a bit of finishing before it's ready to be prepped for painting. I hope that I'll eventually be able to do a better job on the cosmetic side of things. After all, it happened after a while for my metal welding. I have high hopes.

Great Product
I bought one of these for my husband for Christmas a few years ago. We have a small engine repair business and he uses it at work, mainly on gas tanks with small cracks or for reinforcement work. It works great!

Great tool for any shop
I had bought this to try and mend a "Rock Band" drum set. One of the kids had played on it too hard and snapped the side drum off. Melted down a V-groove and melted in some new plastic and it held on great! Thanks!

Repair or Replace??
I had to make a choice of replacing the fairings on my motorcycle or buying this welder to repair them. I went ahead and bought the plastic welder and it worked great! I had no idea this tool existed until a friend told me about it.

Excellent Plastic welder
I am a 30 year mechanic/ welder. I bought this welder for one project. I found that I use it quite often, Enough that I had to reorder rods. It did not take long before my welds looked professional. I save a lot of money repairing plastic parts rather then buying new. I like the fiberflex rod the best, you can use it on most plastics. I'll use the stainless mesh for big jobs and aluminum screen from any hardware store for light projects. I just saved over $300 dollars repairing a front end on my daughter's car. I would recommend and have been recomminding this welder to everyone.

plastic welder
The plastic welder is one of the most valuable tools in my shop. I repaired a part on my sprayer pump that was not replaceable. I have repaired ATV fenders, a gas tank on an ATV and remotes for the house. With most things being made out of plastic now days, this tool is a must have for any shop. I would recommend it 100%.
