Great Stamp set!
This stamp set works well for metal and wood. I use it for punching a person's name into wood for a gift or for marking my lawn equipment. Overall, the best set I have owned.

Automatic Metal Punch Set
ITEM DESCRIPTION (As I see it):
This automatic character metal stamp consists of lettered and numbered stamp "bits" that fit into the end of a spring loaded handle. Working similar to the automatic center punches that are popular these days, this tool uses that same functionality to emboss characters into various soft metals.
WHAT I LIKED:
The tool feels reasonably constructed of decent quality materials. The tool comes in a fitted plastic case, with "live" plastic hinges for the lid and clasp. If used to emboss soft metals such as thin aluminum or brass, this tool functions reasonably well.
WHAT I DID NOT LIKE:
The automatic, spring loaded striking mechanism does not always "reset", so it takes several presses on the handle before the internal striker will engage to produce the blow that makes the impression into the material to be marked. This doesn't always fail to reset, but it is frustrating when it does.
Don't expect this tool to produce a deep, pronounced impression on anything but thin sheet aluminum or very thin sheet brass. If used on mild steel, the characters produced are nearly invisible, and easily obscured by scratches and rough handling.
OVERALL:
I mainly use this tool to emboss aluminum tags, so it works rather well most of the time. The "reset" and weak striking force issues are annoying, and while not show-stoppers, they justify my "FAIR" rating. If I needed the device for high volume work, it would not be worth the lost productivity, and I'd be forced to toss it. For infrequent, soft metal marking, its purchase is worth considering.

Good Letters
It's easy to stamp even, legible letters and numbers, of even depth, into key tags, tools, etc.

Character Metal Stamps
I did purchase these and found them to be exactly what I was looking for.
Inexpensive and worked great.
I needed a way of making my own metal tags for my dog collars. I cut a three-quarter inch wide by one-eighth thick piece of aluminum long enough for my needs. I stamped the information I needed on them and riveted them to my dog collars.

Not for stamping
Brass part has two springs inside and it's actually nice. They sell this as just a punch, I would go with that.
Here's the bad:
The small magnet inside was received all crushed. If not seated inside correctly, it will get crushed as you hammer your first stamp anyway.
Some letters didn't even fit inside the hex, had to grind it so it will fit!
If you stamp more than 1 letter in a row, the bit will be jammed in there and it will be tough to get out. Mine is stuck with the one that makes a period, i.e. it's now just a center punch.
You can't line up the letters. the hex part and the letters are all over the place.
If you plan on stamping something other than 1 letter, it will be crooked.
Even with 1/8 inch aluminum, you had to really drive it home to get anything.

STEEL PUNCH
The punch set works well with aluminum but does not have enough punch to stamp into steel. The case is a little weak but will keep the set together.

Tool is nice, however, I didn't use it for metal.
Let me start with the fact that I did not use this tool on metal. It was used to put imprints (letters and numbers) in wood and clay. However, the tool is very well made, the pieces are well set up in the strong case and the the bits lock nicely into the tool. I doubt you could use this tool for mass production, but I see no reason it would not work well for stamping metal or any other surface.
The quality of the tool, its parts and the case is very impressive.
