NorthStar Four-Way Slip-On Log Splitter Wedge - 8in. Length
Can always find a use for this
Be careful to check that this item will fit your splitter - it does not fit mine. But, this is a very hardy and well-made item that I found another use for, and it has already proven a valuable tool.

Does the job AFTER you sharpen it.
I purchased this same wedge several years ago and used it on a splitter I sold last year. It worked well but as others have mentioned it pushes back into the wedge welded to the beam and dulls that. The more frustrating thing is the price considering it's a few pieces of welded steel. The wedges aren't that well designed and they send it out dull. What's worse is that it's dull--which means you have to sharpen all splitting edges--and painted, so the second you sharpen it you peel the paint off to start the rusting process. Just poor planning on a simple item. It works well but if I had the time I'd make it myself.
Shipping was fairly fast which is always nice. What Northern charges is a lot for a poorly designed and dull wedge that you have to sharpen before use ...

4 way spliter
This product has saved alot of time and speeds up the process of getting the wood split. Now if they could design a product to stack the wood.

It's an ok product
It works just fine but the vertical blade needs to be sharp like the wings. But it's doing the job it was intended for.

I bought this hoping I would not borrow my friends after using it for 3 years. When this one came, right off I noticed shabby workmanship in the way it was built. Out of square badly and the worst thing is the way the big V is put together it's welded inside so when pressure is put against the original splitter knife, it flattens the edge. I used it about 2 minutes then threw it in the junk-pile and went to borrow my friends again like usual. I don't like sending things back, and I wasn't going to say anything until I was asked to write a review, my first. Not sure where to get a good one, but certainly not this one! Also the edge is not a hardened edge like you would see on all the others. Sorry but it is what it is.

This item works great so far. I have only got about ten hours worth of splitting time with it so far and the only real issues that I have encountered was when I was splitting some rather large pieces of green Red Oak. Due to the oak being rather 'stringy' it sometimes would not complete the horizontal split, the verticle was never a problem. But considering the amount of time that this wedge saves this is only a minor issue.

Four way wedge
This is the second 4-way wedge I've had. Due to operator negligence, the original one got banged up pretty badly. This was due to the V shaped protrusion on the splitter face impacting the 4-way wedge. The wedge works very nicely on 10" rounds and above. It sure reduces the number of times I have to pick up round halves and split again into quarters. The downside is that the wedge badly dulls the vertical splitter on the machine. The wedge interior, which slips on the vertical column of the splitter, impacts the sharp edge of the splitter and makes it rounded. You can see this in the image I uploaded.

I ordered this 4-way wedge not counting on it fitting my Brave 26-ton splitter. It didn't either. But it was close enough so I cut off the square steel band that slips over back of oem wedge and made a new one and now it seems to fit fairly well. It does work the splitter considerably harder, and the logs get stuck on the wedge much easier than b4, but it does what it's billed to do.

A Good Idea
This is a great product. I have been using it for most of the winter. It slips OVER the Northern Tool splitter. So if you do not have the Northern Tool branded splitter it may not work.
The only downside is it sits on the splitter with any type of bolting or welding. Sometimes this causes issues especially if the quad splitter gets stuck in a piece of would that doesn't split all the way.
It does speed up the splitting process.
I would recommend buying this product to a friend.

4 way split.
Works good with the right size wood. I will make a seperate pile that is all the right size then split it all at once.
I used a hand held grinder to sharpen it some and it make it work much bette.
I have a splitter that is on the smaller side.
but over all works great.
