Good torch for the money.,

"I work in grounds maintenance and have gotten about 3 years use, on average out of this type of torch . I dont consider its design to be commercial grade, but it has proven to take an average range of use and abuse from various users at my work. We have gotten our moneys worth every time weve used it. It is easy to light and puts out plenty of heat to destroy weeds on command. The wands length comes up about 10 inches too short for most average height people to use it confortably. This is the only reason it does not get the 5 star rating. After about 20 to 30 minutes of continuous use, you may notice a drop in pressure from the propane tank as the flames force will decrease. This is not due to the torch itself, but to the propanes characteristics under pressure and tanks size along with outside temperature. I will buy again."

A few dollars more,

"A few dollars more spent to improve the quality and durability of this torch would make it an excellent buy.

Aside from being prone to rust, the gas regualting valve on the torch no longer works and the gas flow must be adjusted with the tank valve. The igniter is going to rust away soon, and the finsih on the metal parts needs more protective plating.

I gues you get what you pay for."

"This is the second of these I've bought from NT. Earlier model had an integrated striker in handle to ignite flame, which was convenient (no need to look around for striker) but striker was not durable. So, for this unit, be sure to buy separate, inexpensive striker (which creates the spark to ignite the propane flame). These propane torches take some getting used to to find the optimal rate of propane flow to maximize flame's power (too much flow can snuff out flame; too little flow and you can't melt very much ice). I use these units in central VT for melting ice on steps and around doors, and to impress city folk when I light the bonfire (don't need much kindling to get the fire going). Overall, good value for what you get."

"This torch works! The user must read the instructions and understand that the bottle connector contain a safety device. This device shuts off the gas flow to the hose if there is an accident ( a broken or severed hose). Due to this feature you must open the gas bottles valve slowly. This keeps high velocity gas flow from activating the safety device. I opened the torch valve slightly less than 1/8 turn. The torch lite the first try. The duel torch valve is a nice feature. The torch was used on weeds in a gravel driveway.

The only possible negative is the wand length. If you are taller than average, you may want to get a model with a longer wand."

Great when you get it going.,

"This product works like a charm once your able to get it working. When i first got this thing it would not allow any propane out. I had to work on it for a bit to get it to shoot a flame. Once the initial problem was taken care of though, it made work a breeze. The main thing ive used it for is the removal of old floor tile / especailly the old asbestos ones. Just make a couple quick passes with this thing followed by a scaper and the tiles come up just as easy as anything. As far as melting ice... it works but its alittle to time consuming doing a large sidewalk. If you are going to melt snow / ice i recommend you upgrade to a model that has a longer rod and dual outputs otherwise its just going to be a cool novelty and not really used that much."

"This Propane Torch Kit is an excellent valued item. I use it to quickly remove weeds that pop up in my driveway, my brick porch and along my wooden picket fence. It easily connects to a barbecue propane cylinder. Although the hose could be longer so you don't have to move the tank it is an excellent device. I usually use it when it just starts to rain so that i have less worry about fire flare ups. It is amazing 24 hours after hitting problem spots the weeds and undesired grass is dead. I don't like using chemicals so this is an excellent organic solution. The weeds will come back but hey -- using a torch on weeds - how cool is that!"

"This torch rocks! I've used it to burn brush, melt ice, thaw frozen sand/rock piles, pre-heat a stubborn fireplace flue, thaw a frozen oil tank (very carefully), take the chill off a sub-freezing garage by applying to an old iron radiator and to dry non-flammable outdoor furniture.
Just take care not to break the flexible hose in very cold weather (It would be great if they sold replacement hoses)."

"This product is excellent once you know how a propane tank works. It is necessary to barely open the valve on the newer propane tanks until you are lit and then gradually open the valve the rest of the way, otherwise a safety valve closes the propane off to the torch except for a small ammount leaking through. It can be frustrating getting the torch going at a 'blast away rate' if you just open the tank up and try to use it. Once the technique is mastered the product lives up to all expectations. If this had been in the instructions I would have rated it a 5 star!"
