  1. Does it come with a Certificate of Origin ?

    This is necessary in order to register the trailer in Florida.

    1. After it is purchased, they mail it separately. On the front of the certificate, (has vin number, body type, GVWR, SHIPPING weight, date of purchase). On the back of the certificate of origin, they'll put the Name and address of the purchaser, name/address of the dealer which is Northern Tool.

      ps: It was easy to get it registered in the state of Massachusetts.

    1. This trailer is finished with a black baked-on powder coating, like paint. Once you complete assemby, you could spray paint any scratches, and sprak paint the hardware, and then it is as water-proof as these things go.

  3. Does the trailer have a VIN# and where is it located?

    1. Yes, it does come with a VIN number, engraved on a metal plate and attached to the trailer tongue. It also comes with a factory certificate of origin showing the same VIN number.

  4. is the tongue member welded or bolted to the forward cross member (I need to be able to readily disassemble the trailer for storage)?

    2nd Q: can the number of leaf springs be reduced (trailer is over-sprung for my needs - carrying only about 160 lbs)?

    3. The trailer tongue is bolted at the front and back of the frame. You could not reduce the number of leaf springs and be safe for use.

  5. Can I get a 2" ball coupler instead?

    I have a 2004 Rav4 with a 2" ball receiver on it that is rusted in place; there is no way that ball is coming off. I'm interested in the 40" x 48" trailer, but I can't use the 1 7/8" coupler.

    1. This trailer kit includes a 1-7/8" coupler and cannot be modified prior to purchase with a 2" coupler. A 2" coupler can be ordered separately, however making modifications to this trailer would void the warranty.

    2. When a 2" ball is preferred almost all auto or boat parts store have that coupler. Before I installed the 1 7/8 our local store swapped at no charge.

    3. This trailer kit includes a 1-7/8" coupler. A 2" coupler cannot be included instead of the 1-7/8" coupler. However, it can be ordered separately. Click the link below to view a compatible 2" coupler. Keep in mind that this trailer has a max towing speed of 45 MPH.

  6. Width between the Wheel Fenders

    Can a 4'x8' sheet of plywood/drywall etc. lay flat?

    If I add stake holders to the outside of the frame rails, will the 4x8' pieces fit?

    1. This utility trailer is manufactured to Northern Tool + Equipment specifications in China. The replacement wheel/tire assembly is our part #ITI37560-16.     2. Country of origin is China. However, I found on my trailer that all of the components are all standard sizes, for which replacement parts should be readily available here in the U.S. When I bought this folding trailer, I was also considering the lighter version of this trailer sold by Northern Tool (the one painted red), and found that many of the components that on that trailer are the same as this trailer, and those components could be bought individually from Northern Tool too. Regardless, I don't think I, you, or anyone else buying this trailer will find it difficult to get new tires, rims, couplers, etc. for this trailer in the future. It's pretty clear that this trailer was engineered and built with U.S. standards in mind.

  9. Where are the outer holes located on the front and back rails to mount a base

    1. Yes, holes are punched around the frame for a bed. Also, slots are cut for side rail uprights.

    2. On the front and back rails, the holes are located 10.04" from the first to the second hole and 6.06“ from the second to the third hole. The third, fourth and fifth holes are bilaterally symmetrical with the first, second and third holes.
      The holes on the side rails are 9.84“ from the first to the second hole and 13“ from the second to third hole. The third, fourth and fifth holes are bilaterally symmetrical with the first, second and third holes on the sides as well.

  10. what type of wheel bearings are on this trailer?

    1. They appear to be standard conical bearings, much like you find on any light duty trailer (boat, motorcycle, etc.) The require a good grease pack on construction and periodic inspection during use.
