While this heater is sold as a garage heater I have used it in home with no adverse effects. It is vent free meaning the exhaust is vented into the space where it's located. Just make sure your space is adequately ventilated.

What is the elevation rating for this heater

Details:

Most heaters with O.D.S. are limited to 4500 foot elevation. We are at about 8000'. Mr. Heater products work at higher elevations. Will this work like other Mr.Heater products?

We live at over 8700 feet, and we have two ODS heaters. One is a "Mr.Heater Portable Buddy", and the other is a "PRO-COM" dual fuel wall unit we got here. Both work fine. We were told that an ODS heater might suffer 'nuisance shutdowns' because of less oxygen at this altitude. We got the portable first, to see if they did work okay. I thought I'd just open a window a crack if it did shut down, but it worked fine in the large bathroom for an entire winter (as supplimental heat during showers- not left on continually). I bought the wall unit as a permanent fixture in that room because of that performance, and it works perfectly. Another side effect we thought of because of the altitude and less oxygen might be higher carbon monoxide exhaust, but our digital readout CO alarm has never given a reading when I check it, or a warning signal. We're happy with the performance of both units.

Inoperative upon receipt I had two of these delivered but was unable to keep the pilot light burning so as to ignite the burner on either unit. Most likely the problem was poor quality control or a defective design. I do not recommend this unit as it was a waste of my time and effort. April 9, 2013

Good Service-Poor Quality Ordered one - wouldn't light. Returned. Ordered 2nd one - arrived in a box that appeared to have been opened and unit used. Missing parts. Not ordering another. March 29, 2013

Self contained solution I've owned this heater for over a year. It fits my needs perfectly. I wanted a propane-fired heater but did not want to have to plumb it with a dedicated pipe from my bulk LP tank. This one is perfect. Self Contained and warm enough to heat my 32'X12' man cave. contained and warm enough January 22, 2013

It doesn't work! This is the second heater that I received. The first one the pilot would not stay lit and was sent back. The new one arrived and I was happy to have it with the weekend approaching as we use the garage as the "man cave". Much to my disappointment the second heater had the exact same problem. I called the manufacturer for some assistance. They offered to send me a replacement part that I was to install myself. Now, according to their manual, "only people qualified to work with gas", should do the repairs. I'm a businessman not a gas qualified specialist. My only other recourse was to return this, once again, for yet a third replacement. I will say that Northern Tool was sympathetic to my issue and sent the third one out to me UPS Blue (second day). Now that's good customer service. I'll update this after receiving the THIRD unit. December 8, 2012

Wow, 18,000 btu The heat that comes out of here can't be believed until you see it. I bought this for an enclosed 10 by 20 porch without insulated roof. On medium it will heat it in dead of New England winter. It's portabilirty means I can wheel this into the house in case of winter power outages. I'm experienced with these kinds of heaters so read the directions on how to start it, it's a little different than most.. About half the tank hangs out the rear so the front to back area needed is more than just the product dimension. Anyone can roll it where it's needed and lock the wheels in place. Great bang for the buck. October 24, 2012
