Very Good Grinder (but don't put in the dishwasher
I bought this grinder so I could get away from using my KA grinder attachment. I've used this grinder five times to grind 10 pounds of beef and pork each time. The first time I didn't chill the meat prior to grinding and I ended up with emulsified meat. From that time, I have always chilled the meat as well as putting the grinder attachments into the freezer for an hour. Following these steps allows for grinding 10lbs of meat in about 10 minutes with absolutely no clogging of the grinding plate. This grinder has plenty of power to grind meat that is soft-frozen.
I made a big mistake of putting all of the grinder parts (except the motor, obviously) in the dishwasher. I ended up with extremely oxidized parts. I spent an hour scrubbing and polishing all of the oxidation off of the parts as best I could and then polished them with a polishing wheel to help prevent future oxidation. The picture in the description states that the feed tray is Stainless steel. It is definitely NOT stainless steel. This picture also states that the grinding plates are stainless steel. They are NOT. The description below the picture is correct, however. The grinding plates are carbon steel and WILL rust if put in the dishwasher. The pusher is hollow plastic and easily folds if you push too hard.
Lastly, as I mentioned earlier, the grinder is very powerful but the case is plastic and feels light, which I find to be a benefit because it's easy to move around and store in a cabinet.
For the price, this is an EXCELLENT grinder, just be sure to not put any of the pieces (except the blade and the pusher) in the dishwasher.

Kitchner #12 Meat Grinder 1/2 horsepower
I bought this meat grinder a couple of months ago and have used it three times and it has worked satisfactory for me each time. I used to be a meat cutter when I was young so I have used meat grinders a lot. I first used the largest hole coarse plate to grind and mix the meat I was grinding, 2 large top round roasts, then I switched to the small hole fine plate to regrind the meat and ground it into ground round. The second time I used the grinder I deboned and ground 2 whole Boston Butts, about ~ 15 lbs of meat, and repeated the same process. The third time I thawed out two large thick top round steaks, a whole turkey breast, and a large pork steak and cut it all into ~ 1" cubes, and coarse ground it and then reground that using the fine small hole plate. So all three times so far it's worked satisfactory for me. It isn't as good as my old Chop Rite meat grinder that I used to use and which lasted me 37 years, but I think it will last as long as I do. <grin!>

Failed after 4 pounds of meat
I was really excited to start using this grinder, and after the reviews I thought I had made a good choice.
Its a nice looking unit, easy to set up and go. I read the instructions, thoroughly, and went to work.
I prepped the meat, as recommended in the instructions, and began grinding with the smallest size plate. Everything was great (for a short while) I was impressed with its speed and the sound - wasn't too loud. There was a smile on my face, but for only a brief moment. Suddenly the motor developed a "heavy load sound and a few seconds later it stopped. I took apart the auger and did not find anything jammed. I reassembled the auger, hit the reset button and it started up, but made the same sound and shut off after 2-3 seconds. (scratching my head)
I told myself its either the auger or something inside the unit. Easy enough to figure out. I removed the auger housing and reset the unit again. The motor started and sounded fine this time. Hmmm. I shut it off and was going to put the auger housing back on but decided to test the motor without anything attached. Well after about 30 sec it made the same "heavy load" sound and shut down. I knew then the problem was not a jam in the auger. After letting it sit for an hour I tired it again. It sounds bad and runs for only a couple seconds.
Something went wrong inside the unit - e.g. motor, gear box, who knows. It's too bad. I was impressed with it for a few minutes. I wanted to grind up 5lb of pork shoulder and I managed to get 4lbs done. I did the rest in a food processor :(
I'm not going to exchanged it. I was originally going to buy a LEM #8 .35hp, and now I will.

Excellent Product
I bought this product for my husband because we process our own venison and it is a great meat grinder. It is really fast making burger which is what we mostly use it for. Easy to disassemble and clean too.

Jerky maker
I use this to make Jerky and sandwich meats. I have tried other grinders, and found them to not be the quality of this Kitchener. I am very pleased with this unit and would recommend it to everyone that needs a food grinder.
