The log set does draw 12.5 amps of current. The cost per hour would depend on the rate that your electric company charges per hour. This is only to be used as supplement heat for a room.

I have been told it should cost about $1.00 or so per day to run, providing you use the built in thermostat feature and not run it on full constantly. It definitely can help supplement central heating, depending on the layout of your home. It should help to lower your electric bill.
Purchasing the Duraflame Electric Log Set Model # DF1020ARU is a very wise thing to do.

The Duraflame Electric Log Set does not make any sound except for the minor hum of the blower. Northern does sell a Kracklebox fireplace sound system (#172950) to provide convincing, realistic sounds of a crackling log fire.

There is no crackle sound. The fan makes noise but it is not too objectionable. You can add the Kracklebox sound unit, but I have not tried it because of the cost.

The blower is nicely concealed behind a finely perforated grate underneath the metal-looking, vertical "rungs" of the grate holding the logs. You can't see it -- you can obviously hear it when it's running, but it's not so loud that it's annoying when running.

Yes it will work. However, it will keep a lot of the warm air from entering the room. I have glass doors on the front of my fireplace. When I use the heater, I open the glass doors for maximum flow of warm air from the heater in the log set. When I turn the heater off I close the doors. The flame and ember effect can be used safely with the glass doors closed.

It has a highly polished rotating reflector under the logs that makes the flame look real it looks like the flame is climbing the brick in the fireplace.

Great product Purchased one for a log cabin tourist overnite rental fireplace in the Smoky Mountains. Guests just love it. Can be used without heat in summer for the fireplace atmosphere with such a realistic flame. Also provides supllemental heat if needed. Loved it so much we bought 2 more for additional log cabins plus another 2 more for our Ohio farm fireplaces for a total of 5 so far. A great look without the mess of ashes or the high cost of propane.. April 23, 2013

Cannot beat it for the price. We have had our unit for over a year now and are well pleased. The heat output is just right for us - it won't run you out of the room, but adds just enough to supplement the central heat. It looks great sitting in our small fireplace and even better after we added a screen in front. You can get better, of course, but you'll spend a lot more. December 1, 2012

Good while they worked I purchased two of these for Christmas presents and they worked nicely. They have an attractive Faux flame and in the heat mode they will heat up a room. This October, however, I tried to turns our on and my sister tried to turn hers on and there was nothing, no flame or heat. They are still under warranty so I hope to get replacements. Dura Flame electric log insert It was a little big for the space we had but with some miner adjustments to the space it fits nice. It takes the chill out of our downstairs area fast and it is nice to look at as well. I love just letting the "wood" glow with the heater on. This is the first week have had to really use it and it makes a cool day nice and cozy. My children love and I love it for its cozy features and the warmth the insert puts out. So realistic! I thought the idea of electric logs was cheesy and they could only look cheap in a real fireplace. Boy, was I wrong! I got these after my co-workers raved about the log set and I am really impressed. When set in the firebox, the "grate" on the unit looks like real metal. The logs have a really nice flame efect that lights up the back of the firebox as well as the logs. The logs have different settings to increase the glow and flicker of the "fire". The only reason I gave it less than 5 stars is that the heater on the bottom hits the frame of my fireplace doors so if I really want to heat the room, I'll need to elevate the log set a bit. But the flame is so nice I'm ok if it ends up the way it is now. September 19, 2012

My fireplace Bought this after renovating a 100 year old home. I have a small box fireplace and would never ever put a real fire in it. I wanted something that looked like real logs just for show. This insert turned out nicely. I like the look with it off, the flames and heat are a bonus when it gets cold outside! The only drawback was having to pay an electrician to put an outlet box in the fire place so the cord wouldn't show. All and all it was worth the price and I am very pleased with the presentation. Love it! I bought this item for my in-laws at Christmas. Ordered it through Northern and received a sale price and free shipping, doesn't get better than that. Quite nice - and compact. It gives a very nice fireplace effect coming from a small unit. The heating element is very powerful and warms up the room quite fast. My in-laws said it was the best gift they ever got!! Nice for the price I bought this to replace a "no heat-flame only" unit. I am very satisfied with its heating ability. The flame is somewhat realalistic. The fan is not real noisey when heater is running. Love that is has a thermostat and remote. Really good deal for the price. January 16, 2012
