This was fast and easy, I 've tried other brands and this one is heavy duty

wasted money
I used the bike rack one time to haul two bicycles to Myrtle Beach. Both bikes were brand new. My bike was scratched up due to the poor quality of the rack. I bought the bike rack last year and have not used it since. I purchased different bike rack a few weeks ago and am very satisfied with it. I will probably give the Wel-Bilt carrier away or use the metal for something else.

sturdy but parts do not fit
I hope I got the only lemon that got through the QC - I really think that the factory was angry with Northern Tool because this is a pile of junk that will not fit together to make a bike rack. Not able to assemble because the tubes ends are the wrong size to mate together. I followed the steps and was quickly frustrated because the inside diameter and outside of diameter of the tubes are sized wrong. Step one revealed that the bolts are not the correct length to successfully assemble the unit. Wel -Bilt is lower priced and substandard quality - I understood I was not getting a high quality unit. What is obvious to me is that the designer of this product is not setting the right tolerances to enable the factory to make a unit that results in acceptable quality. I am returning this and going to buy another brand but lost my 2 hours of trying to make this one work. I measured the components with a caliper gauge and the tubes will never fit together without further machining. 1 star because this was not a successful project.

Bike Rack!
This rack is fantastic and cheap! I've used it for my road bike, beach cruisers and even beach chairs. Very solid and half the price of all the others on the market. Everything I get from NT is quality!

What you see is what you get
The hitch mounted bike rack is exactly what my review title says - what you see is what you get! It's sturdy and tough. Holds bikes well! Great for the price.
The mount is a little loose in the receiver. It would be a 5 star product if it was a snug fit!

(4 bike) Bike Rack
The clamps that hold the bikes to the rack is a Knob nut so it can be akward holding the bikes and screwing the clamp down. Also there is not a quick disconnect to lower the rack to open the vehicle hatch. With that said, the biggest plus for this rack is price. It handles 4 bikes with the same amount of space between bikes as more expensive racks...and yes it can be cumbersome but it does its job at more than half the cost. I would definitely recommend it to friends.

Well Built
Seeing the photos online about this product I was a little skeptical of how durable it might be. I also wondered after reading reviews if this product was going to work for the bikes we have and with all the comments about the hitch and how much play there is also bothered me.
Let’s be honest here every product is going to have good and bad reviews. I say read the reviews but don't let the reviews decide for you. Let the reviews be things you look for after you purchase it, because if I let every bad or negative review dictate what I buy I wouldn't have anything.
I purchased this product on 5/18/2012 and within in 10 minutes of purchasing it I had put it together because like most people I wanted to see if what people were saying was true. So here are the facts, if you have ever used a hitch you know there is a little play in there and yes its normal people take it from someone who hauls trailers, boats and fish house on a regular bases, it’s not suppose to be a tight fit so that part of the product I was impressed about and don't think anyone will have any worries. If you put the product together right you will have some play which is normal but it's not enough play when anyone would have to add extra washers or anything like that. I think the best feature on the rack is the bolt that you adjust for how far you want the rack to go down if you tilt it. Having a truck with a tailgate and a dog kennel in the back this is a great feature considering I can still easily get my dog out without having to take the bikes off. The clams for the bikes are great as well so I'm not sure where all that came from that they don't work. As far as how durable the rack is well you will be impressed of how it is. The tubes on this product are great and thick so no worries it won't last because it most certainly will.
Word of advice people when not using this product pull it off the hitch and store it in a dry location. The more you take care of this and other products you buy from Northern Tool the longer they last.
I would recommend this product to my family and friends.

Heavier duty than I thought it would be
This bike rack is heavier duty than I imagined. Metal is thick as well as the bolts. For the price I would highly recommend this item!

Check the type of bikes you have first
I bought this carrier but had to return it. Reason was I own 5 bikes all of which only one could be carried by this rack. If you own aluminum frame bikes which are thicker than your regular 1" tube steel bikes don't buy it. Also the double suspension design on one of the bikes interfered with mounting if I would have been able to fit the frame thickness on the clamps. My son and daughter's bike could not be secured unless the yellow plastics are removed but then you scratch the paint. Only my wife's bike steel 1in tube $100 bike could be carried safely and without paint damage. Other than that it worked well, my 2011 4runner's hatch door opened fine and it seems strong enough to carry a few steel bikes. Just do your homework, it is not designed to fit most modern bikes designs, especially more expensive mountain bikes.

wel bilt hitch mounted bike rack
it works good on some bikes but not all we have a lady's giant bike it is hard to mount you will need to figure a way but the mount is very sturdy and heavy duty
