"With this attached to the back of my folding chair with some "L" brackets and a voltage adapter, it powers my boombox sitting in the sand next to me just fine. :) I got a lot of envious looks.

I suppose I could add another adapter to charge my cell but, I kind of like the idea of leaving the phone in the car. I am thinking I might add a small fan to my chair though..."

"Running a wireless internet camera, (6 watt) Panel connected to a 12VDC 18Ahr battery. 12VDC battery into a voltage converter to 5VDC output to camera. Works rather well. I know the camera draws a little more power than the panel produces, so I must remove and recharge with a regular battery charger every 8-9 days. I am going to purchase the 15 watt panel and add another camera, should have enough and a little extra. Panel specs 1st week max voltage 24.2vdc 2nd week dropped to 22.8vdc ; however current output remains at 250-270ma. Voltage is still 22.4vdc after 10 mts. Very pleased would purchase again."

"Great price. But not a true charger in my opinion. I charged a little jet ski battery with a full day (dawn until dusk) of sun--minimal clouds--in Tampa. After all that, the battery barely had enough power to turn over the little motor. My battery was not the problem, as a regular A/C charger charged it fine. I expected more. Clearly this is a battery "maintainer", not a charger. The fine print also made that clear once the product was delivered. I'm disappointed, but should have known better for this price. I plan to visit a local NT&E store and return it or upgrade it. Let's hope the 15W gets me out of the "maintain" category."

"I have two motorcycles and a utility vehicle that seemed like when I wanted them, the batteries were dead, I hooked up one to a 5 watt solar and two to 1 and 1/2 watt solar chargers and all three vehicles are ready to go when I am....I have used them in my motor home, in my truck when the battery was getting weak.....I am sold on them.......a very cheap investment for excellent service. I attached two panels, one on either side of my garage door with the wires going into my shop (garage).....each attaches to a battery (stored) and rotated to a motorcycle. occasionally.......a great improvement over dead batteries!!!"

"I purchased this solar panel to keep the deep marine battery on my travel trailer powered up. It is simple to use, not intimidating. It has the trickle charge so don't expect tons of power, but for things like this, it does fine as long as the battery already has power. I am at a point where Northern is the 1st place I check for whatever I think they may carry, even if I need to rig something and need several items to do it, Northern is the place."

"I have 2 of these panels on my sailboat - 1 is attached to the battery for the running lights and interior lights. The other is attached to the battery of the electric trolling motor. They both provide enough charging capabilities to keep these batteries charged for my weekend sails. I have also used it for my camping trailer. This is a great liitle panel."

"I ordered this panel 2 years ago but didn't put use it til last year. I have 3 horses and approx. 7 acres fenced in. I have a battery powered fence charger. Living in Maine, I have trouble in the winter with my battery going dead then freezing. Last year after installing the panel, I never had to bring the battery in to charge it. I am very please with this product. Also have had no problems with my horses getting loose as it keeps it charged well enough that they get a good zap it they touch it."

"I've had two of these 12x12 inch panels working for a couple of years. At least two winters. One is connected to the lawn mower battery, which I used to have to remove and charge in the winter. No more. This panel is perfect, without the use of a charge controller, to keep that battery always ready, summer or winter.
The other one I use to charge a car battery. Same story. Both work well, actually read almost 20v on voltmeter, and even though not pointed directly at sun, they do the job. I've mounted them vertically on two 6x6 deck posts. So even though not pointed directly at either summer or winter sun, though they do face the south, and they produce enough amperage to do the job.
Great value for something that works and just keeps on working."

"I have two of these hooked up on my fish house for winter ice fishing and they work great for my lights, radio and a small led television, I installed two power posts outside to keep my atv's battery fully charged that I use to go back and forth when fishing. They work great."

maintain battery in a 1984 VW Westfalia

Details:

The car battery powers the refrigerator when the vehicle is moving, but it drains the battery quickly when not moving. Will this solar panel keep the battery charged when the fridge is on and the vehicle is not moving?

No, but it will help. this panel is putting out 5 watts. A small refrigerator takes about 400 watts of continuous power to run. This panel will make the battery last longer when running the fridge but will not keep the battery from going dead.

The draw of the refrigerator must be equal to or less than the output of the solar panel its a simple matter of math, if the numbers are right the panel should work...

I am not a solar or photo voltaic expert, but do have a few other solar panels. This one is purely for "trickle charging" a battery. If you want to keep the refrigerator going, I would recommend a much larger (say 60-200 watt?) solar panel or two panels, because you need much more amperage than this panel provides. This one is not designed to recharge batteries from a completely drained state, but just to keep up the charge once the battery is nearly at full charge. You need to know the amount of amperage that your appliance draws, so that you can match it with a solar panel. This panel maintains the charge very well, but is not designed to completely recharge.

This panel is weatherproof, for sure. I've had two of them out in the weather for over two years and they work well. They are completely sealed.

However, they are not designed to maintain multiple batteries, nor a bank of batteries. Mine produce no more than 5 watts and very small (one-two amps?) amperage; particularly on cloudy days. Still, this panel produces enough amperage to keep a single 12 volt battery, such as my lawn mower battery, at top charge by "trickle charging" it. By comparison, I have another panel, also bought from Northern Tool, that is 12 volt 15 watt panel, that I use with a charge controller to maintain two spare car batteries that are connected to my generator. This 15 watt panel easily keeps both car batteries fully charged. But still, it is just a "trickle charger." For heavy deep cycle battery charging, you need much more amperage than either of these smaller panels provide. For example, I have two 180 watt (max 40 amps each) panels on the roof that, through an automatic charge controller, will not only fully charge from a drained condition, but also keep charged ("trickle charge") my bank of deep cycle batteries. .

The item #121186 (Npower 5 watt solar panel) is a trickle charger and is not made to be used in combination with other panels without modification. The Item #121179 (Npower 15 watt amorphous solar panel) could be used in parallel with other panels to increase output with the use of a charge controller. See link below for more details. Wiring panels in series will multiply the voltage output by the number of panels used. For example if two 12 volt panels were wired in series the output would be 24 volts. If the same two panels were wired in parallel the voltage output would remain at 12 volts, but the amperage would increase.

This will produce enough watts to operate a 60 watt bulb. The panel should be connected to a 12 volt battery where the power will be stored. You can then operate straight to 12 volt from the battery or converted to 110 volt through an inverter to operate the bulb.

If the fan on your RV is run by a 12 volt battery this will work great for your application, this NPower panel charges 12 volt batteries which power 12 volt appliances.

You will not damage the panel or the battery if the fan is off because it has built in diodes to prevent any damage.
