No, this light is operated by the remote only, there is not a photo cell that is included to turn the light on and off.

Would this work for an off the grid cabin?

Details:

The cabin is full south and currently has 3 propane lights.
I would like to use the solar as the primary light instead of the propane. Would one hanging light be enough to cook? To read? How long is the extension cord from the small solar panel? I do not understand the remote turn off. Is the turn off on the lamp? Could it be put on the cord if not on the lamp?

The light would be enough to cook or read by. It comes with a remote to turn the light on of off. The cable is 12ft that comes out from the panel and into the box that the light hangs from on the ceiling.

I'm over 50 so i would say, 2 lights to cook by. you can see to cook yes with one, but i won't tell you that you would know if the food is done just by looking. i would also do the fork test.. lol reading a book? yes you can, but i would not say that it is enough lite for your eyes.. I only bought 1. I plan on buying more.. It Greatly surprised me the amount of light the 5 little bulbs do put out. I've been using mine for 5 months now, it still works like new.. I have bought other types of solar lights, so far this 1 is the best!

Yes, a single solar panel will power two or more of the Sunforce lights keeping in mind that the more lights you plan on powering with one solar panel the faster the batteries will drain.

The remote control will only respond to the one light that comes with that single solar light purchase.

Yes, you can. I have used the switch inside under the glass cover to turn on and off the light. You do have to remove the glass protector each time though to use the switch which is a bit of a pain.

I had mine outdoors in a moderately protected spot. It developed some water problems in under 4 months. If you decide to use it out of doors where it will get rained on I suggest getting the extended warrenty.

Great outdoor lighting Great area coverage for an LED light. I have this on our back porch and it gives off enough light to play card, board games, etc. The only downfall is that the dome for the light catches water so I had to drill a small hole for it to drain out. But overall it is a fantastic light! October 15, 2012

Love this light. I purchased this light earlier this Spring for our storage shed. Finding anything in there from dusk & beyond has long been an issue & this light has cured the problem. About the only criticism I have is that it could be brighter, but it works fine for our purposes. When my brother-in-law visited recently he really liked it & wanted to know where I got it. great product if you are considering this, you will not regret buying it. the light has 2 settings and works perfectly. utilizing the sun for light makes sense and given the fact that it costs us nothing to have light while enjoying our screen room at night is icing on the cake. the cord is plenty long to get a nice direct sun for charging. we never ran the charge out so I cannot state how long it holds, but three hours a night times four or five nights a week, still performs flawlessly. I will be buying another for camping. March 10, 2012

Great Alternative I got this light for our shed that has no power. i was a little skeptical but after install, its a great little light. easy install of the solar panel, easy connection and the install of the light inside. hung it from the cealing high enough to cast a great light. i haven't seen how long it will operate but for the short trips in and out of the shed to get stuff its super. in fact, going to buy two more for the garage. Not weatherproof We have this hanging out under an open pergola that has no nearby electrical outlet. Perfect, we thought, until after the first rain. The glass globe filled with water. We let it dry and it seemed to be okay, but after the next rain, it won't turn on anymore. Dead in under two months! On the upside, if you're using this in a covered area, the light is REALLY bright for such a small lamp. Very impressive, if you can keep it dry. September 27, 2011
