Does the chainsaw have to be a certain size? My husband wants a portable chainsaw sharpener but he has a very large chainsaw?

There are a variety of different chains on the market. This sharpener works with 0.325in. chains and 0.404in. chains. It is best to verify the type and size of chain before ordering to ensure a proper fit.

The Saw Size is irrevelent. The Northern Bench/Wall sharpener will sharpen chains that have 1/4" pitch; .325" pitch; 3/8" pitch; 0.404" pitch; and 3/4" pitch.
It's a good tool at a good price.

Absolutely Yes....
The 1/8 " grinding wheel matches right up with a new chain for the set-up. Then put in your old dull chain and make the final adjustments. Check the fit with the machine off, then switch it on, mark the 1st tooth and your on your way.

This Bar-Mount chain saw sharpener will work great on a 3/8 inch pitch. Just use a 1/8 inch grinding disc.

As with any equipment If You Take Care Of It, It Will Take Care Of You!!! I have had my sharpener for only a week and I have already sharpened 15 saws with no problems at all. I believe it will take it.

By determining the size of your chain, we will be able to see if this will work as this chain grinder includes a grinding wheel for sharpening 0.13in. thickness for 0.325in. chains and 0.19 thickness for 0.404in. chains
To determine the size of the chain, the chain drive link number is stamped on the chain's drive link. This will indicate the physical size of the chain's pitch and gauge.

Setup/operational instructions are vague Purchased this product summer 2012, have not been able to use , instruction booklet not given much thought , I guess there is no product testing to see if instructions are customer friendly. NT, give this device to your ceo an see if he or she, can easily understand the operation of this sharpener you guys are selling, Buyer beware, review owners manual B4 u purchase unless you have previous experience in the setup and operation of this device. Usually help can be fnd on Utube, nothing fnd the last time I checked. February 4, 2013

Bar-Mount Chain Sharpener I ordered this product a couple months ago and had not used it to date. However, a 50 foot tree fell over my driveway last night. So, I had to get the chainsaw out and got to work. I used this sharpener to sharpen the chain and it does an excellent job. I saw that another reviewer gave this product a 1 star because the instructions were poorly written. This is true! But, I thought we were writing these reviews to rate the efficiency of the product. For the price, this sharpener is excellent and does every bit as good a job as more expensive chainsaw sharpeners. A couple CAVEATS: Yes, the instructions are not well written. But, if you're a handyman, you can figure it out. Also, this sharpener requires a 12 volt battery to operate. I keep a battery charger and a charged up 12 volt battery around to run inverters, etc.. So, this has not been a problem for me. December 3, 2012

Instructions Very Poor Note that this is a 12V unit, so use at workbench requires a 12V battery nearby. Also, I think this unit has the worst instruction manual I've ever seen. 7 pictures with arrows in a space of 3x4 inches, with absolutely no references in any text to what is trying to be pointed out. Will return because of very poor instructions manual. October 11, 2012

Works Great Got this sharpener last winter and have used it every since. Once you get use to setting up on the saw it works great. It's gets the teeth like new and best of all you don't have to take the chain off the bar. Better than the file guide I've used for years. Learning how to set up takes a little trail and error so take your time. Real easy to go to deep when you first start using it. January 16, 2012

saw sharpener this bar mounted saw sharpener is probably the best remote sharpener you can purchase on the market... i have three different saws and it works great for all three.. my father and my brothers both have saws and they borrow it every chance they get.. i have recommended this remote sharpener to several friends and i know of one buddy that purchased one three weeks after borrowing mine.. you best get one for yourself and try it out... good cutting :) January 9, 2012

Bar mount sharpener Directions for mounting and use were very short. Only pictures to figure out. Was hard to set up due that I have never used this type that mounts on bar. Once mounted and set up the tool worked great. Built in stop made sharpening the chain quick and easy. Motor has enough power to do the job in the field and make quick work of sharpening. Being 12 volt means when I am other side of property I can keep the chain sharp and keep working longer. You only need to fiqure out how to hold saw securely while sharpening chain. Very good tool for a landowner, not to sure how well it would hold up to a professional logger. June 6, 2011

Simple, Quiet, and Spot On I rescently purchased this sharpener and I must say that it has already exceeded my expectations. The ease of setup was very simple and straight forward. I have 3 different saws myself, with different chains and to change out the honing discs was a very easy process. The 12 volt motor is really powerful and extreamly quiet! The motor turns up a whopping 5500 rpm's, which is more than I expected. Overall I would rate this sharpener top notch, for portability,(in the field use), ease of set up, and it really does the job. This sharpener takes a very tedious task of sharpening a saw chain with a hand file and blows it away!! The speed at which it takes to sharpen my saws is amazing. Thank You Northern Tool for makeing this outstanding product available. Last but not least is the price, it is a steal! Once again Thanks Northern Tool. C. Walters March 22, 2011
