"I am a certified all position pressure vessel welder for over 25 years and have owned many welders. I currently have a 220v Mig and Tig gas welder. I bought this Northern Tool 110v Mig welder so I wouldn't have to lug my 550 lb. welder out for small jobs. My Son and I have started building Tattoo machines. The 220v welder was too big to weld the smaller Gauge 1018 HRP&O steel we make the frames with. We decided to try this welder and were skeptical at first. After practicing on a few pieces of scrap to learn the characteristics of this welder we started welding our first Tattoo frame. It turned out absolutely flawless. We have built over 50 frames since our purchase without a single mishap. We also used it on a trailer repair outside and the flux core wire worked great in the light breeze that would have caused havoc on my 220v gas welder. This little welder lays down a "stack of dimes" Just like my large gas welder at just a little more cost than a roll of wire for my large welder. Plus it consumes so much less power. We have welded some 3/8" steel with excellant results with this Northern Tool welder. We also don't have to worry about running out of shielding gas while welding due to the flux-core wire. This Northern Tool welder is excellant and I would recommend it to anyone who needs a welder that is portable, reliable and is easy to operate yet will weld thicker steel when necessary. We are thinking of buying another so we don't argue about who gets to use it and increase productivity. Buy one, you won't be dissappointed."

great value intro welder,

"Being completely new to welding, it took some time to be able to learn to lay a bead (albeit an ugly, lumpy bead) with this welder. But just being able to weld at all, after only messing around for a couple hours says it's pretty newbie friendly.
The only downsides to this welder is a lot of spatter and the fiddling with the feed speed to get it welding just right. Granted, that has nothing to do with this welder in particular, but is apparently a by-product of flux-core wire-feed welding in general.
On the plus side, the inexpensive price for a completely self-contained welding system (no gases needed), that will run from any household outlet, is pretty darn nice.
I'd give it 4.5 stars if they allowed half-stars."

"My son took at welding class in high school. He has the gift. My wife and I gave him this welder for his 16th birthday. This welder was a blessing to his skills. It is compact and very user friendly. He uses this welder 6-7 times per week, from fixing the family grill to helping a buddy with a broken shifter on an off road jeep. If you want to begin welding or need a welder in the garage for a project, we would recommend this unit."

"I purchased this welder b/c it was all I could afford at the time. I was impressed with what I got for my money. I also wasn't a very experience welder and it proved to be managable. I have used this welder for several years with no problems and would def recommend for a tight budget or an inexperienced welder. Great for around the house welding jobs because of the price. I used it for my small fence company and welded many aluminum gate frames with it. Very happy!"

"I have been a welder for amost 50 years and this little machine is really neat.
With the .030 wire it really works. Easy to set up and even came with 1 # of wire to use."
