"I just got the Hobart 180 a week ago and i have been spending some time with it , getting it set up. My main use for it is on the trail when we jeep mostly out west. We use a 800w inverter to power it and have set it up with Hobarts 24 0z co ( paint ball ) cylinder for solid wire. So far we are selfsufficent for power and gas and the welds we are getting are impressive . I really recommend if you are interested in a welder that you need to take to a remote site this is it . I cannot imagine how you can beat this set up. At this point i am very impressed and cant say enough of the quality welds its allowing me to produce. My best advice would be to try a demo and i think you will agree this has got to be one of the better Hobarts."

"I've used this welder on numerous occasions. It is inverter based so the arc characteristics are awesome. Has no problem welding 1/4" single pass. I'm into 4x4's so this thing really comes in handy on the trail. In the shop, I have it setup to run solid wire and the welds are beautiful. When I head out on the trail I just disconnect the bottle, and throw a spool of flux core in it. If you don't have 220V in your shop and you want more than a 140 Amp welder, then this is the welder for you. 180 Amps!!!!!!!!!!"

Answers

The 2 12 volt batteries are sealed within the Trek 180. Since they are sealed a solar panel an additional battery could not be used. To recharge to weld another cycle only takes 15 to 20 minutes.
