"I was not at all happy with the first unit I bought. I had the entire unit assembled and was doing a final inspection when I found two of the four lower bolts were nearly out of the pump unit. When I went to tighten them one was jammed and the other was impossible to tighten because of the angle on the housing prevented the Allen wench from engaging the cap screw (very poor design). I returned the unit, Northern was courteous and helpful, and I opened the box to inspect the second unit. I returned home and assembled the unit, filled with oil and gas, hooked up to the water supply and started the power washer on the third pull. Opened the nozzle and wand immediately froze up; no matter what I tried I could not release the pressure nor get the wand to activate.
I returned to the store fuming. I was ready to return the unit and get my money back and I would have if it wasn't for the Assistant Manager (Larry). He spent nearly an hour with me testing the pump and wand assembly; finally he concluded that the wand had locked up under the pressure. We tried another wand from another returned Powerhorse and it did the same thing. He fixed me up with another manufactures wand and I returned home to start what I began nearly four hours before. It work like a charm with the new wand and I have about 20 hours on the unit since. It starts on the first or second pull and does a great job of power washing. The only complaint I have is the nozzle will take off if not seated fully in the quick connect, which is difficult to tell if it's seated correctly.
I want to thank the guys at Northern Tool in Cary, NC and especially the Asst. Manager (Larry), if it were not for him I would have my money back and gone to another store. He not only saved a sale but save a customer."

"I am very impressed with this unit. This is one strong pressure washer. Years ago, I brought a 13 HP Honda powered washer from work to clean my drive, house trim and fences. I think it was a 4000 psi machine. It used gallons of gas and took days just do do the drive of about 1000 sq. ft. For my new Powerhorse Pressure Washer, I filled a 5 gallon can with gasoline. Not only was I done in 1 day, I had almost 3 gallons remaining, and it was cleaner than the last time I did this.

It has that sound of power. You can't control the wand with one hand, unless you dial back the adjustable output knob. Easy to start with a compression release in the pull starter. The LCT engine is not the average Briggs mower engine, it is an overhead cam, high efficiency 4 stroke engine.

I researched many units from the other tool stores. The main reason I picked this unit was because it was the only horizontal engine shaft unit for less than $500.00. Horizontal shaft engines are stronger and outlast vertical shaft engines. Truly a 5 star machine."

"i have had several gas powered machines and the biggest problem with any of them is the cheaper models never a gas shutoff. the gas gets old and then the unit does not start or runs poorly. this has a gas shutoff for long term storage. it is easy to service, small and light wieght. It has enough power so when i add my 50 foot extension hose i can get inside the pool area and keep the machine in the yard."

"This washer is a big improvement over the electric washer I have used in the past. The engine starts easily and runs well. The only short coming was the quality of the spray wand. If you turn the pressure too high the wand locks and will not spray. I find I have to stop the engine and wait awhile while the pressure bleeds off to use the wand. Overall this is an better than average machine at a good price."

"This is a good product that starts well, has adjustments for pressure, idle, etc. Much better than a machine that only has a set pressure and idle. Don't think you'll find a better machine , at the listed price, that has these features. it comes with a good wand and hose but, I don't use them as I've another professional wand with different adapters for washing different surfaces and a longer hose.

Recommended, quality build."

There are 2 of them. If you called the recoil rope as the face, one is on the right rear. The other is at the left rear. Both are about 3" up from the base, but the left side fill is partially under the cylinder cooling fins and is more difficult to access. The right side is easy access. Both are black threaded twist caps with "O" ring seals. There are also 2 separate drains on the left and right side base plate.

To verify your question, are you asking about the oil fill for the engine or for the pump? Each needs to be checked and filled separately as there are different fill points for each.
For the pump there are actually three different fill points. The two lower fill caps have a dipstick built into the caps with which you can confirm the fill level. those two fill caps are down low on the pump casing that is silver colored (the caps are black plastic). One cap is located on each side of the pump near its base.
There is one engine oil fill cap that is also black plastic. It is located on the top of the engine.
The engine has oil in it from the factory. The pump does not.
You may want to do an online search for both the pump and the engine. Manuals for both are online. Hope that this wasn't more info than you needed.

Answers

You would need to use the chemical nozzle to spray your wash you want to use. This is a low pressure nozzle. Then you would change it out to the other nozzle for the rinse.

The instructions for applying chemicals is listed on page 17 of the manual. This is on our website under the item number, scroll down to the PDF file and click there.

There is no tank for chemicals/cleaners/detergents. BUT...
There is a pipe nipple downstream of the pump that accepts a flexible hose (which is included with the pressure washer). On the end of this flexible hose is a small filtration unit. To use the pressure washer with chemicals, attach the hose to the pipe nipple and place other end of the hose - the one with the filtration unit - into a jar/bottle/cup containing the chemical you wish to use. Pressure through the system will "siphon" the chemical out and mix it with the water already going through, so by the time the solution sprays out of the nozzle on the tip of the wand, the water and chemical are already mixed and spraying on whatever you are cleaning.

To obtain the lowest pressure you have to set the engine throttle at the lowest setting and turn the pressure all the way down on the adjusting knob. There's not going to be a whole lot of pressure at this setting. Good for cleaning tarps, and items that theres a concern of blasting through it.

The pressure can be adjusted to almost nothing through the use of the unloader valve on the pump. For applications where the pressure is critical, the use of an inline pressure gauge can be helpful. See link below for more details.

Can the engine be idled down?

Details:

If idled down, can you leave the engine running while the spray wand is not engaged and not spraying water? My last washer had to be turned completely off if not spraying for a couple of minutes, or it would damage the engine.

i did not when i moved furniture I just put the spray wand down. the cheaper models cool the pump via water, the pump is oil cooled. I would not run it for 30 minutes or longer without using the wand if that were the case i would shut the unit off, but for a few minutes at a time it is not a problem

To ensure pump life we recommended that any pressure washer not be left running for periods of over 1.5 minutes without either depressing the trigger on the spray gun or shutting down the machine.

It is recommended you change the pump oil after the first 50 hours of use, and then every 3 months after the first oil change.

It is self contained. It should be change regularly (see the manual for the schedule). It has a plastic vented cap which could be better designed so you may get some unexpected leaking for it. It so then you may have to drain and add oil (it doesn't have a sight glass so you can't tell how much oil it has in it).

You do not have to continuously add pump oil as long as none has leaked out. It's recommended to change your pump oil every 40 hours of use. If you're not sure how much you have in the pump, simply drain it and add exactly 5oz of fresh non-detergent pump oil.

Yes, the pump requires SAE 30 non-detergent oil but this unit ships to you with oil already in the pump.

The engine does not ship with oil so be sure to add the engine oil listed in the owners manual.

No, For this Powerhorse pressure washer we recommend a SAE 10W-30 for general use, for temperatures less than 0 degrees Fahrenheit you should use a SAE 5W-30, and for temperatures greater than 50 degrees you should use a SAE 30.

Most small engines are no longer rated by horse power, they are rated in pound feet of torque. Torque is a better way of rating a small engine as usually the are run at a constant speed. However, this 208 cc engine has been previously rated at 6 hp. the torque rating is 9lb/ft.

If you were to spray the undercarriage of your car, full 3000psi may remove protective coatings from the frame or fender wells. You might also want to give house siding or glass a light rinse without having to disconnect and use a garden hose. On the other hand, it is acceptable to use the setting turned all the way up for cleaning.

Pressure adjustment should be reached with the different nozzles that are available. If you adjusted the loader valve to adjust the pressure, I would ask that you contact us at 1-866-443-2576.
