Roughneck Maul - 6-Lb., Model# 70-707
Great Maul, So Far
I am an experienced wood splitter and recently purchased this maul. I used this maul to split a couple of ricks of red oak and live oak. I love the balance and feel of the maul. Thus far, I have no complaints except the handle protection could be thicker.

I really like this maul. I've been splitting 11' rails for split rail on my property. I'm using is as much as a sledge as a cutting tool. It drives wedges, just enough weight for accuracy and efficient driving. It is forgiving when this office boy gets tired and aim fall short.

Handle failed ... fast
I bought this maul 2 wks ago after checking several stores specifically looking for a 6# maul (already own an 8#). This one looked like it was made well, so I gave it a try. It worked well and was a little easier to swing than my 8#er ... when it had a handle on it! Unfortunately, after splitting less than a cord of wood, the handle separated from the head. It didn't break, but the resin holding it in the head gave out. I'll be returning it and either look for a different one, or may go with the old reliable hickory handle with a wedge to hold the head on!!

This is a wonderful maul for light firewood splitting. i have split many a cord of wood and have had no problems with it. the fiberglass handle has great durability and is very light as to keep the weight at the head, where it should be.
