Drolet Freestanding Heat Shield - 31in.W x 42in.H
Does The Job
I bought this item to shield the drywall behind our wood stove. The drywall would get very hot when the stove was being used (the stove is installed the recommended distance from the wall per the stove manufacturer.) With the shield in place the drywall is now barely warm. I also think it reflects a lot of heat back into the room. It looks nice and does the job. Our stove is installed at an angle in a corner, so I am ordering a second shield to better protect both walls. I am very happy with the shield. It shipped quickly.

Saves so much space, it is worth the price
Well made, fits a lot of stoves. This item allows a stove to be set up a lot closer to the walls than otherwise would be allowed by code and common sense. When combined with installation of tile or stone protective wall and floor coverings, you may set the stove or heated half the recommended distance from the walls, still meet code and insure safe operation of the stove. Also, the shield absorbs and re-radiates a lot of heat into the air that would otherwise be wasted.

Bought this to shield a sheetrock wall that was getting VERY hot to the touch when using a woodstove installed by previous homeowner with inadaquate clearance (2 feet from wall). With the shield now standing about halfway between the stove and wall, the wall still gets a little warm when running stove at full operating temp (400 degrees +/-), but nothing at all problematic. The shield is plenty stable. I am very satisfied. PS - the shield shipped promptly, and arrived in just a few days.

Does a great job.
We have an old franklin stove in our house. There is a brick wall behind it with a one inch air space and the plain old sheet rock wall. We had the stove for about 25 years when the insurance company suddenly noticed we had a stove and sent the agent over to look at it. He insisted on the metal heat shield, which I found at Northern. We've had the shield for about six years now. It looks very nice behind our stove in front of the brick wall. There is a HUGE difference in how hot the bricks get, and the old style brick protection like that is counted for nothing at all now in terms of protection from fires. The insurance agent explained to me that the problem is the nails or screws that hold the sheet rock to the wooden studs. They can get so hot that they will ignite the studs. Our bricks used to get so hot we used to spray water on them to instantly evaporate and give us humidity. They only get slightly warm to the touch now.
I am having another wood stove installed in my house next door this year, and I came here to order another one of these shields for that house. This one is a no-brainer. Just get it. It looks fine, and if you don't like the look, you can remove it during the non heating season. I don't bother because it looks fine.
I do believe that because of the radiating surface of the shield itself, we get a few extra btu's that would have just gone into the wall, but it's nothing I can measure..

drolet heat shield
pleased. sceptical about size, etc. but bought anyway. works better than the 500 lbs. of concrete backer board I had propped against wall. drawback is that can be knocked over. I use in shop and like that it can be easily stored in non-heating season. (probably not the best looking thing to be in a home) I contacted local sheet-metal fabricator and could not have one constructed for less. like that it can be placed really close to stove and works as well as being far away. framing wall members, etc. stay at normal temp. would purchase again with no hesitation. also, was shipped and received within a few days.
northern tool needs to make it easier to actually get this review posted

we just installed a blaze king wood burner in our home, and before we purchased the drolet we had started the stove, our walls got so hot that water would actually sizzle when it was sprinkled on the wall, we instantly smothered the fire, and decided we needed something to help with the heat transfer, found the drolet here at northern tool, and ordered two of them, product came ready to go out of the box, and now the wall behind the drolet is cool to the touch no matter how hot we have our stove! I would recomend this product to anyone that has issues or concerns about heat transfer! A-1 product.. oh forgot to mention that our stove is preatty close to a window and the window stays nice and cool also!!

Drolet Free Standing Heat Shield
The heat shield does the trick however it would be much more beneficial if it was 3 inches higher and if the side panel where 6 inches longer. I use it with my whistler stove and have found the above would make me feel a little more secure when having a fire for an extended period of time.

I have a wood burning stove that would heat the wall beind it to a point that was very hot to the touch. Even though I have the heat rated brick paneling, it was still uncomfortably hot. Anyway, I placed this heat shield between the stove and the wall and noticed an obvious difference. The wall behind the stove that was once hot to the touch is now cool. This heat shield worked perfectly. I would recommend this product.
