Better Burn
At first glance this product might seem unnecesssary. It's a barrel stove. Air enters through the damper at the door at the front of the stove and exits at the flue at the rear of the stove. Pile wood in the middle and it burns. Simple.
Yup. But it's not that simple. Wood piled on the bottom of the barrel will burn like a cigarette.from the door to the flue and from the top to the bottom, or until the fire goes out because it is choked by ash. You wind up with uneven combustion.
The Vogelzanger grate runs down the middle of the stove under the wood and provides an air path under the length of the pile. The wood then burns at an even rate from the bottom up until the wood is consumed.
Factory stove manage the air coming at several places in the firebox. You can too.

vogelzang grate
works 'grate', no pun intended.......i use it in a 55 gallon barrel, but for a smoker that i use just like the double barrel fireplace. it works perfect for protecting the barrels bottom side from the extreme heat and easy ash cleanup.

complete burn
a needed addition to your barrel stove for a complete allnight burn. I use it in a barrel stove in my greenhouse to keep the plants warm. Load the stove at night, set the damper, with the grate you get a much longer burn than without so I can get some sleep instead of staying up all night ready to turn on the generator if the power goes out to keep the heater running.

barrel stove grate
Found this product to be very well made and it fits exactly in a barrel. i have had this product for awhile now and found it to be better then using sand to keep the bottom of the barrel from getting too hot. It allows air to flow in and around the burning wood so that you have a good moderate fire.
