Nope. The damper is located on the front of the stove and it is sufficient, so no need to install a damper on the stovepipe.

A damper in the stove pipe is not a requirement, however, it is suggested. It is suggested because it eliminates excessive draft created by a hard pulling chimney. Please see recommendation below.

While many would argue that it is not totally necessary to have a damper in the stovepipe itself, I would recommend it as you will have much more control over the draft and be able to better control the heat output, making the unit more efficient.......hope this helps!

This stove is intended for use with the legs attached. The screws that hold the legs in place also hold the bottom heating shield in place.

Where is blower located? Can you have blower blow out the back of the unit?

Details:

We need a wood stove for which the blower blows out the back of the top of the unit, and don't see any info about where the blower actually blows.

Answers

The blower draws air in at the back of the stove and a shroud on the back of the stove directs the air across the top to the front of the stove. Note# This stove puts out the most heat across the top so the blower is taking the cooler air at the floor level and blowing it across the hottest part of the stove.

It blows up from the bottom of the back and their is a plate that is angled forward over the top of the back of the stove, is is very efficient I believe!

Yes. It's the same as not turning the fan on. The fan is separated by enough air so it won't/shouldn't melt if the stove gets hot.

Yes, this is why I bought one. The fan will not work but it has a flat top so you can heat water for baths and also cook a hot meal if you want.

Yes. Blower is mounted on the bottom rear of the stove, protected by a heat shield. I don't even use the blower. I have a magic heat flue heat exchanger that works much better than the little blower.

Minor assembly required. Just bolting on the legs, back heat shield and heat diverter. Battery screwgun and a 9/16" socket wrench is all you need

Yes, there is some assembly.

1. The legs have to be put on.

2. The heat shields (bottom and rear) as well as the blower, need also to be installed.

Took me less than an hour........not a big deal.

Answers

The dimensions of the stove are in the manual that is posted on the website. Firebox dimensions are 13"x27". It will take 24" logs easily. I could barely reach the back of the stove to reinstall the firebricks
After doing the pre burn and how long it took to cool down, I do believe this stove will be an overnighter. After all, that is the main reason I bought it

The Durango Wood-burning stove dimensions are: Overall 17 1/2 x 34 x 26 inches. Firebox 13 1/2 x 27. The maximum log size is 26 inches. The stove can be used overnight as long as all rules and safety precautions are followed per the product manual.

An electric bills worst enemy. I was raised around wood stoves and my mother-in-law has one. I REALLY like the Vogelzang Durango High Efficiency Wood Stove with Blower. Is very simple to use once you get it installed (this takes time and patience). I live in a mid sixties built ranch brick home. With very little insulation (about 1500 sq. feet). This wood stove heats it comfortably. I do not get 10 hours of heat but I can be gone all day and come home to hot coal ashes and build the fire up with little effort. The BIG draw back is the short legs on the stove. I'm a shorty and I have to sit criss cross applesauce to put the wood in. March 25, 2015

Horrible almost every part of this stove has fallen apart, witihin the 2nd year. Beings we were dumb enough to buy it towards the end of winter, the next year when it started falling apart we were told it was not under warranty. Save your money don't buy this. January 5, 2015

Really Great stove I bought this wood stove to replace a barrel stove in the basement of my 1800 sq ft home. While it doesn't produce quite as much heat as the old stove, it also doesn't burn through as much wood and I'm not getting up 2 or 3 times each night to add wood. I am averaging 9 to 10 hours burn time on a full load. Overall I am very happy with my purchase. December 15, 2014

Good stove I have bought many woodstoves and this stove is one of the best long burning stoves I had. The only issue I do have is that the legs are too short. they need to be twice the length. December 11, 2014

impressed........... This is my first wood in stove, and it has impressed me from the start. It was shipped very fast, and in a crate like box fully put together, excluding blower and door handle knobs. I have it sitting in my fireplace, and piped up the flue, very similar to some of the pics posted to this stove. The first burn was more than i expected, and very easy to light, with in 20 min. it was up to full burn. I used up all my older wood first, which was about 18-20 inch logs, with the shorter logs I found that i was loading the stove about every 3-4 hours. I just got 5 cords of 12 foot logs and cut them to about 24-26 inches, as the specs say the stove will take up to 26 inches, the best thing I could have done. With the longer logs I can load up the stove and it will burn around 350 degrees for over 8 hours. Even waiting 10 or 11 hours, there is a bed of red hot coals and all I have to do is load it up again and with in 20 min. it gets right back up there. The stove is placed about 30 feet from the thermostat at the end of the hall and it is easy to get it to read 74 degrees, not even with the damper fully open or with the blower fully on. The one thing that I did buy for the stove is the Ecofan, this fan runs on the heat from the stove, it will start running at about 120 degrees, and at full operation it says it will produce 125 cfm. When it is running I dont even hear it, unlike the blower. It does a very good job moving the heat away from the stove and moving it around, I do use the blower when I want to move the heat down the hall. All in all this is a very well built stove and has impressed me. November 4, 2014
