great for waste vegetable oil (WVO),

"I use this pump to transfer vegetable oil to my diesel truck, and it hasn't skipped a beat. It draws very low current, and will pump very cold and thick oil with ease. Just make sure your outlet line doesn't have a closed valve on it, or the pump will pop a fuse because of the outlet restriction."

"I am using this for an off spec use, in the environmental field to recover waste oil from the ground water. I an suprised at how well it has lasted considering the conditinons in which this product is used. The onle problem is if small debri gets in the pump it hold open the internal check valves causing the pump to malfunction. But this is easily fixed by simply disassembling the pump, and clearing the debri."

"Whale Gulper 220 Diaphragm Pump - 12 Volt DC, Model# HD1552
We actually purchased this to originally drain an area we had dug out in our field -- a rock quarry exploration - which is well away from any electrical source. We wanted to drain out seepage water, but this pump was a little too small to move the amount of water we needed out of the ground hole. We will be back to Northern Tool to get a bigger pump for that purpose. But meanwhile -- and the two-fold reason we bought this pump -- is to have it in our boat. It will work great for that purpose. Plug it into 12Volt -- and no more worry about any water in the boat. This is sure going to be a peace of mind item when the family is out on the waters! Thanks."
