Product Details

Installs into flue of your wood, oil or coal furnace or heater, except item #172781 which is only for use with gas stoves. Magic Heat™ Reclaimer consists of 10 heat-exchanger tubes and a thermostatically controlled fan to blow warmed air into the room. Turns on at 150° and off at 110°F. 115 Volts. Produces 225 CFM and 8000 to 30,000 BTU. Peak performance is maintained by the use of Flue Stove Pipe cleaner (our Item# 172801). 10 5/8in. W x 14 1/4in.D x 18 1/4in.H. Please measure flue before ordering. U.S.A.

heat is what makes this product work so i guess the question would be how much heat are you loosing up your stove pipe. I would guess yes it may take a little while to start cause it has to reach temp but i say once it reaches temp you should be ok. it does not effect the flow up your pipe. Just reclaims the lost heat.

Will I be able to clean stovepipe with this installed?

Details:

Does this device interfere with the inside diameter of the stove pipe? In other words, will I still be able to use my stove pipe brush (same diameter as inside stove pipe) all the way from the top down to the stove? Or do the heat reclaimers reduce the inside diameter of my stove pipe to the parallel spaces between heat collectors, without a means of cleaning the soot that builds up there?

you have to remove it to clean your stove pipe but this is simple ...two screws. I do it every year and i'm a 50+ women.. by no means a builder or handi-man

The unit has a built in cleaner for scraping the tubes. You can actually clean the stove pipe from above without removing the unit but you must work carefully so as not to damage the tubes.

Yes, this Magic Heat reclaimer must be mounted vertically to operate correctly and to prevent fires.

You will want to purchase the necessary pieces for your flue so that the reclaimer is mounted perfectly vertical.

It is not recommended that you simply cut the pipe and remove the section. The reclaimer needs at least 18" of clearance from the stove and added to the existing or new pipe.

Answers

The heat reclaimer can be installed on double wall pipe. It would need to be installed on the inner pipe. This is if the double pipe is used for insulation. If it is used in a fresh air intake you could not install the heat reclaimer. Also, you would need to crimp one end of your straight pipe to fit it to the end of the reclaimer.

Effective piece of equipment The heatilator is easy to install and works well. The thermostat works as designed and cycles as it should. It definitely reclaims heat that would otherwise just go out the flue. Time will tell how long it lasts, but I see no indications of degredation after 5 years. October 17, 2011

Magic Heat We had a Magic Heat Reclaimer on an old wood stove for about 50 years and it is still going strong. We purchased a new wood stove so we bought another Magic Heat Reclaimer. They work great and do a good job capturing the heat. The Magic Heat Reclaimer really puts out some heat that would normally go to waste, works great. We'll definitely buy a replacement in 50 years when and if this unit wears out. In a world of increasingly disposable consumer goods, this is a product built with pride and meant to last. Magic Is right This does just what it says it does. Two winters now and Wonderful!! Cleans easy! Wired mine t a switch heats all the rooms great,....Love it and the savings is soo much better than just the fireplace blower! Would recommend to anyone. Magic Heat Rocks! I bought this product over 5 years ago and it is still going strong. We have a wood stove in our basement which heats our whole house during the winter supplemented by baseboard heat when the temp drops below 65 degrees. Magic Heat consistently kicks on when the sensor detects the correct temp and kicks off when the temp drops below a certain threshold. I can't believe that it has lasted this long with so much constant use. I'll definitely buy a replacement when this unit wears out.
