Is this fan rated for outdoor use? How do you change the speeds?

Details:

Fan will be mounted above the screen panels of a screened porch. If shutters are open and it rains, would this damage the fan blades or the motor?

The fan is not rated for outdoor use. Water would eventually damage the motor. The speed of the fan is controlled by a pull chain.

No. The air current from the fan opens the shutters. When the fan is off, the shutters are closed. When the fan is operating, the air flow and the angle of the louvers keep the rain out.

Yes. It is recommended to be mounted with the louvers mounted to the outside of the house and the fan on the inside. I replaced a window with mine, and modified the framing specifically for this fan. a 3/4" piece of plywood with a round hole cut into it was what I attached the fan housing to.

also I will be using this in a paint booth with the fan being inside a boxed unit with a filter the back end and the fan acting as the exhaust end. the trailer is 50 feet long with a clean air intake at the opposite end pushing air towards the fan. will this work?

too powerful? Very powerful fan, shutter assembly works very well. I replaced the cheap pull chain switch with a three-way light switch that looks alot cleaner and works better. Also, the wire fan cover is a bit lame, allowing the fan motor to vibrate alot. I added some cross bracing with metal straps fastened under the 4 motor nuts, and anchored to the wall. With those modifications, it worked great. May 7, 2012

Exhaust Fan I had recently purchased a different 24" exhaust fan from a different dealer. The comments the dealer made were quiet running. The TPI Shutter Fan is 1/3 the noise of the other and the shutter is made much better than the competition. The only suggestion I would make to TPI is to use a different style switch. When remote mounting the existing swith to a wall mount the pull string does'nt look very professional. Overall I'm very happy with the performance and the quality of the fan. February 22, 2010

Better than an air conditioner Bought and installed the 24-in Shutter Exhaust Fan in my attic, and wired a separate control switch to a convenient location. We turned it on from about 6:00 to 10:30 PM during summer, all but 2 humid weeks. It is like free air conditioning, but with fresh, cool, night outdoor air. Saved about $350 compared to last summers electric bill using the whole house air conditioner. Quite and powerful enough to provide steady air flow from all four bedrooms. exhaust fan We made a sound proof air compressor room and needed to vent out the hot air from the air compressors cooling radiator. The Northern tool TPI Shutter Exhaust Fan - 24in., 5000/6800 CFM, Model# CE-24-DS is doing a wonderful job for us. The fan blows the hot air outside our building. We put a receiver vent on the top of the compressor building above the compressor for the intake of fresh air. This winter, we are going to route the hot air back into our shop for free heating. Shutter Exhaust Fan The fan works great. There were conflicting assembly instructions in the shipping box. The shutter manufacturer's instructions for assembly were different from the fan manufacturer's assembly instructions relative to attaching the shutter unit to the fan unit. The shutter manufacturer's instructions were correct. I would purchase another shutter exhaust fan from Northern Tool. July 9, 2007
