"I neeeded a charger to keep all my toy's (boats, TT, lawn mowers) batteries charged over winter without over charging them. This product does a great job. sometimes you swear they are new batteries your installing instead of your old ones. This charger will NOT bring all batteries back to life and I don't expect it to. A battery that is abused and not taken care of and is now dead most likely will NOT come back. Is it worth the time to give it a try? You bet you just might be surprised."

"I bought this to restore and de-suphate batteries, I have tried 3 so far and it's a NO GO did not do anything I do not recommend these units if your batteries are dead. So "IF" you had hopes of bringing back some dead batteries FORGET it. I wish I could get a refund. Do not get this unit IF you goal is to revive dead batteries."

"I HAD BEEN TOLD ABOUT HOW WELL THESE RESTORERS WORKED, I HAD SEVERAL BATTERIES THAT WERE AT THE END OF THEIR USEFUL LIFE OR SO I THOUGHT, I BOUGHT THE 2-4-8 AMP RESTORER AND WAS VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY IT BROUGHT THE SULPHATED BATTERIES BACK TO LIFE, FOR 6 VOLT BATTERIES I HOOK THEM IN SERIES, WORKS GREAT FOR THEM TO. I HAVE USED IT ON MOTORCYCLE TO RAILROAD BATTERIES, JUST TAKES LONGER FOR THE BIGGER ONES AS YOU WOULD EXPECT. HAS PAYED FOR ITSELF MANY TIMES."

"Bottom line first: this charger does what it claims -- batteries left on it for weeks or months get better, not worse. I've seen batteries that were beginning to become sulfated and lose some cranking amps come right back to full strength after a couple of days on this charger.

Pros: Looks fairly weather-resistant. I've had it mounted outside on a porch for two years (under a roof, though, not directly exposed to rain, etc.) and have had zero problems. The unit works as advertised, has never damaged a battery for me, and has saved several.

Cons: Cost -- I understand you're buying the technology, but I think an 8-amp charger should probably be half the price of this one, even considering the technology... if it were half the price, I'd own more than one. Also, the wiring seems rather delicate -- I have several cheap chargers with much tougher leads and better clamps. Another complaint is the external temperature sensor -- you have to look very carefully to match up the (+) and (-) on the connectors to hook it up correctly, and then there's no indication as to whether the sensor is actually connected correctly or working.

Anecdote: Most recent accolades were this Spring when I pulled my riding mower out of the garage and the battery was completely dead. I jumped it off with a larger "industrial" charger, and after mowing all day, the battery still wouldn't turn the engine over. When put on the big charger, even at relatively low current, the battery wouldn't take a charge, it'd just make a sulphurous smell. I put the BatteryMINDer on it for a day, and, low-and-behold, it would start the mower! I left the BatteryMINDer connected for a couple of weeks, and now it seems to be back at full capacity."

"I used the charger for a car battery, a deep cycle boat battery (that was depleted) and for some solar panel batteries.

The car battery charged well, the boat battery was very low on power so it took a couple of days to get back to a usable state. For the solar batteries it tops them off quickly which is important because I use them for experimenting on the bench.

Overall I really like the charger. The only downside is that the type of battery selected must be done quickly when it is first turned on or else you cannot change the settings. I like automation but in this case I would rather have some switches that could be set before turning it on.

Definitely a good product and I would buy it again if I needed to."

"I could not be happier. This little box does alot for my batteries. Being in the golf cart business, I come across alot of carts that have dead or almost dead batteries. In a couple days, it brings them right back to life. I like the feature that tells you if a battery can be or shouldn't be charged. I had a couple batteries that would not hold a charge, even when charged with my 40 amp charger. I hooked the BatteryMINDER to it, and in a few short days, they were back to holding a charge. Now for real results, leaving it on charge for a week or 2 is recommended"

Proper Equipment Use and Installation

Details:

This charger would be bought for a standby generator for a rural water service district.
Would this equipment be suitable to remain engaged to the battery / charging system while the generator engine is running for an extended period of time? Or should it be disconnected after startup?
Also, based on information from the owners manual, would it be OK to mount the charger inside the vented housing of the generator set. That being from the concern of gases emitted from the battery and ruining the charger and effects on the charger from the heat of being in an enclosed although vented space.

The BatteryMINDer can be safely left connected at all times.

You should try to keep operational temperatures below 40C / 104F, they should never exceed 50C 125F.

The BatteryMINDer itself it designed to never cause outgassing on a healthy battery. I am assuming the gassing you are talking about is due to the generator connection. Always take every precaution when dealing with gasses emitted from a battery as they are explosive. All electrical connections need to be secure and insulated to remove any chance of sparking (not just those to the BatteryMINDer). In addition the BatteryMINDer and all other electronics should be mounted as far away (upwind) as possible. Although the BatteryMINDer is sealed with a rubber grommet, it is always best to err on the side of caution.

I would leave it hooked to the battery but away from heat and battery fumes. It can be used on board a car or truck-hooked up- but away from engine heat. Probably best to unhook it after charging and maintaining the battery.

This maintainer would be a good choice to keep the battery maintained in your generator. The leads from the BatteryMinder should be disconnected before starting the generator. I would recommend mounting this item on the outside of the enclosure so that it doesn't get too close to any heat that would be strong enough to melt or degrade the housing. The housing is water tight so weather should not be a concern.

Does the battery need to be disconnected during desulphation?

Details:

I understand that the desulphation phase for the 12248 applies short duration, high voltage pulses to the battery. I'm concerned that if it remains connected to an automobile's electronics that they could be damaged - ECM, alarm, radio stand-by, remote entry electronics, etc.

Is it safe to connect it to the auto battery while it is in the vehicle and connected?

Are there any equipment damage warranties?

Answers

It is perfectly safe to connect to your battery while in the vehicle. We do not have an equipment damage warranty (we have a 5 year manufactures warranty), but we have never had any issues.

Car alternators put out much higher voltages and dirtier power then a BatteryMINDer. As such the equipment in your car is built with much higher voltage tolerances then a BatteryMINDer will ever put out.

The Battery Minder does not need to be disconnected during desulphation. The unit needs to be plugged into a 110 volt power source at all times during operation. The unit will not damage any of the automobile's electronics. The unit will perform as intended as long as the battery is in good working order. There are not equipment damage warranties available for this item.

These units have multiple packaging options from the manufacturer and this one does not include the temperature sensor. It is available separately. See link below for more details.
