Powerful, well made
As others have stated, it is a great tool -- at least as powerful as my plug-in Milwaukee. Both saws have good power for the acid test: cutting up an oak pallet.
The DeWalt's mechanism for replacing blades is far easier to use than that on the older Milwaukee, and the ability to mount the blade sideways can be handy. I bought it for pruning the 2000 feet of treeline that ring my lawn and line the tiny road leading to our house. Battery life can be an issue if you don't plan for it. My battery lasts long enough to fill up the garden cart with brush, at which time I smash the brush into kindling for the wood stove. I have additional batteries from my DeWalt drills, but so far I haven't done multiple-battery jobs. With two or three batteries and a charger at the job site, you'd never run out of power.
As a aside, a good measure of reciprocating saw speed is stroke length. The good saws have 1 1/8 inch of stroke length. The incredibly cheap ones have 9/16 inch stroke length, and they are frustratingly slow to use.

This is a very powerful tool. I have a Dewalt 110 volt also and it has more power than the 110 volt model. It has enough battery life for most jobs, but if you are going to use it for an extended period get an extra battery or two. They charge quickly and you can cut all day. I find it very useful for tree prunning and cutting bushes and trees off at ground level. The toolless blade changing works well and is a real time saver. This is a tool that you will use a lot and is worth the money.

Outstanding quality and run time.
This recip saw is well worth the price premium over cheaper brands. Quality is top notch and easy to maintain with greese ports under the rubber boot. XRP battery has very good run time and will last a long time if you keep them in the charger as Dewalt recommends. Will accept the newer lithium batterys, but beware they have a shelf life of 2-3 years from date of manufacture unlike nicads. Quick release blade lever is a little stiff at releasing the blade, but will break in. This is not a harbor_freight toy, it's a serious industrial quality tool.

Why did I wait to long to get one
Every ime I needed to cut something where a circular saw wouldn't work (at least for me), I get telling myself that I need to get a recip saw. Every time I saw someone use them and saw how handy they were, again the same thought. Finally, to Northern Tools I came and I haven't looked back yet. I love it. Love being able to switch the blade 90 degrees to make it easier for whatever direction I'm cutting, love being able to adjust the shoe to help control the extension past the cut, etc. If I had to have just one saw, this one would be it. DeWalt makes great tools and their cordless ones are awesome. Good life on the battery with great power and an amazingly quick recharge time.

DEWALT RECIP SAW
The saw handles a long blade well when doing demolition work. I have the XRP batteries and charger and wish I had known the saw was available alone. The XRP charger with a spare battery from my drill etc keeps me busy. The saw stays cool even with a high usage rate and the blade quick change is very handy.

Just one more thing you can use your Dewalt Cordless Reciprocating saw for !

XRP Reciprocating Saw
This product works awesomly. I bought this product because I wanted something that could take a beating and keep running. This saw does just that. I used this saw for a demolition and it cut like butter. Part of the thing that helps is keeping the blades sharp and not running them dull. The fact that you do not need any tools to replace the blades makes this even more useful. I used to carry a hex key to remove and install a new blade. With Dewalts quick change system it allows the blade to come out and replace. This speeds when you need to cut out door jams and need to get flush to the concrete.

No so reliable
We have used these saws on a daily basis for several years and are seeing a common weak point. The shoe assembly adjustment will invariably fail and allow the shoe assembly to fall out. This has happened on two of the three saws we have owned in the last two years. I would not recommend this particular saw due to this defect. We also had a failure of the quick change mechanism on one unit.

I have used this saw on many projects. I've cut everything from wood to oilfield tubing with scale buildup. Battery lasts better than any other cordless battery that I've used. Have had it fall off of a ladder and take day to day beating very well.
