"My Dad purchased this splitter. He is 78 years old and in a wheelchair. I was concerned, when he told me it was a manual model, that he would be too frail to operate it. I removed it from the trunk of his car, unboxed it and rolled it to where he wanted it. We inserted the two handles (which was the extent of any assembly), inserted a log and the thing worked like a charm! We put logs in it with a diameter of 12 inches and my three year old could split the log like it was made out of styrofoam!! I was astounded! My Dad can move this easily, even from a wheelchair, because it is on two small wheels. He will have no problem splitting even very large logs. I will update on the durability after we try it for a season. Absolutely a great buy for the homeowner with available downed trees for use as heating!"

Great Log Splitter,

"Bought this splitter with a little apprehension, but it worked great. I found when you put a log in the left lever moves faster than the right lever. I put the log in and bring the ram close with the left lever and if it starts to get hard to move the left lever I use the right lever until the log starts to split then I use both levers to continue splitting the log. When I put the next log in I bring the ram back to where the end of the log is to save time. I have not had a log I cannot split with this unit. I can also use this early in the morning and not bother anyone because there is no noise. It has been fantastic to use. It is a little slower to use but so am I. I would recommend this to a friend."

"Product split 5 cords of wood this winter in all conditions without a hitch.
It is easy enough for my wife to use it and let me focus on stacking when she helped. If you could fit the wood on the machine it would split. All types of wood were split (hickory, oak, walnut, locust, popular etc.). Excellent design and flawless performance. Get used to the smell of freshly split wood once you have one."

"Astonishingly handy gadget. It took little effort to split any log I could lift onto it. The wheels let me easily roll it down my driveway, though I doubt they would be much good in soft soil. Definitely worth the money."

"I got the logsplitter for some recreational property I have. I don't have to keep gasoline for it. It split logs with very little effort. To move it I just pick up one end and drag it around on the weels on the other end. It would be heavy if you were to pick it up, But the end you pick up to drag it doesn't weigh much at all. It's great for the wood I split for a camp fire that we have every night there."

"Just what the doctor ordered! I couldn't justify purchasing a powered splitter with my only occasional use, but I was getting too old to continue using the sledge hammer and wood grenade. This machine makes quick work of splitting wood well above their suggested 9 inch maximum diameter. It also gives you a good workout!

The instructions could use some fleshing out, though. Use both handles, (the "high" speed and low speed until the log is tight against the splitting blade. At this point, use only the low speed handle till the log starts to split. You can then continue with both handles to finish off the splitting. It didn't happen to me but I could see how you could bend a handle, (the high speed side,) if you continue to use it before the wood starts to split.

The wheels could be a little bigger but I manage to move it around ok if it is held at the correct angle.

All-in-all, I wish I bought this years ago and would recommend it highly!"

"I am married to the most do-it-yourself man ever. We supplement our heating with a woodstove. We cut our own wood and my husband thinks it's good exercise splitting by hand (no automation for him). Normally, my job is to be available and help where possible, but I'm pretty inept at splitting with an axe or wedges. So I spent a lot of time waiting while he cut then split the wood so that I could stack or haul it. I wanted to be more useful and spend less time waiting. Finally, along came this splitter for a reasonable price, small enough to be carried into the woods by hand, and without all the setup overhead of the gas powered splitters. And it can be tucked away in the garage without using up lots of storage space.

I am over 50 and can manage this splitter just fine. It splits whatever I ask it to without any problems. It does have a couple of drawbacks. The support stubs that are meant to hold the log in place sometimes actually snag onto the log. We've had to bend those down to avoid this problem.
Also, the thing is heavy! I cannot lift it on my own and requires two to move it. I can move it with a dolly inside. But it is difficult to get into the woods with it where underbrush and uneven terrain are problematic. Also, we tend to misplace the rods since they don't have a way of attaching them to the splitter for storage. And finally, we would like it better if it took logs a few inches longer. All this said, these drawbacks are minor in comparison to the usefulness of the splitter.

Now my husband has his saws, axes and wedges. I have my splitter. So we cut down a tree. He saws off the limbs while I haul away the brush. Then he starts cutting it up and I start splitting and stacking (no longer just waiting for him, or worse, fumbling around with the axe and wedges). Then he also splits with his axe. And we both haul the split wood out of the woods. Both busy and productive and content."

"Bought this tool to help split some pine tree logs. Worked like a charm. The log has to be real close to 18" long to work correctly. The stroke on the hydraulic is only 8 inches. I cut a couple of 2 inch logs to use in between the hydraulic ram and the log to have a decent push. I still needed to use a maul to finish a few shorter logs, but other than that it split logs the maul could not. Excellent portable log splitter, really need 2 people to lift and move effectively. A tool for the occasional log splitter.. Easy to store and maintain."

Not bad for the price,

"I got this for my father and had to use it a few times to show him how to do it.
(Pretty self explanatory anyways)
It's not too bad for the price. Of course, it does have it's limitations. The logs pretty much have to be the right length and not too much wider than 8 or 9 inches, so you do have to cut down or split some larger logs to use this effectively.

All in all, a lot easier to split logs with this than the old fashioned way (axe or wedge only)."

"The machine is solid, the main beam and wedge are like any 5 horse model.
That said, it is also heavy. The wheels are castors, only useful on concrete. I easily lug mine around with a $30 hand truck. I would hate to heat my home with wood I split with it, but for my frequent back yard camp fires, it works well.
My 12 pound splitting maul bounces off the wood this thing splits, slowly but surely. For fireplace or campfires, works great. To heat the house, get a gas model."
