Gorilla-Lift 2-Sided Tailgate Lift Assist, Model# 40101042G
A Must Have
This gate does exactly what the video shows. Had my wife come outside to verify that it worked properly. She was skeptical at first, but she knows how heavy the tail gate is on our 16' trailer. She sure was amazed at how effortlessly it was to open and close. In her words, " no more gut buster opening/ closing that darn heavy tailgate". I'm glad that I was told about the Gorilla-Lift, best invention yet!

Thanks Northern for the e-mail containing this product I did not know that they were available till I received you e-mail and I had just been told by my eye doctor to not lift anything heavy.
This is a great product for anyone with tailgate on a trailer. It is a must have and it works great. The tailgate can be lifted by anyone even with back problems. If you can not lift it with one finger you don't have it installed right. I only had to use the large spring to lift my four foot by six foot tailgate. I modified my installation a little instead of using the loops of the cable to attach to the bolt. I used some small clevises between the loop and the bolt, that way if I need to remove the tailgate I don't have to remove the bolts, just lift and twist the clevis and the tailgate is ready to come off with no tools required.
It took me a while to install but the installation is fairly straight forward. The instructions say drill 1/2 inch holes for 5/16in. bolts and it comes with 2&1/2 inch bolts. I drilled the holes just large enough to accept the shank of the 5/6" bolt and used one inch bolts so I did not have an excess amount of bolt extending out of 1/4 in angle.
My only complaint with the system is that even though the instructions say that the hardware is standard 5/6 inch and 3/4 inch it is not you can not use a standard 5/6 in nut on the bolts supplied nor does a 1/2 in wrench fit. The same is true with the 1/2 in bolt that goes on the tailgate it is not a true 1/2 in. bolt a 1/2 in. nut will start and screw part way on but that is it and a 3/4 in. wrench will tighten the nuts but they don't fit properly. Other that that gripe it is a wonderful system makes my life much safer and simpler.

Makes life easy
I had to change the mounting bolts to shorter ones, but other than that it was easy to install, and when it used to take two people to lift the gate on my transport trailer, I can now do one handed. Well worth the money and effort to install.

Simple but effective design. They work exactly as described. Makes closing and opening the tailgate by one person possible. The only dislike is when the tailgate is down you have to watch to not trip over the cable. These do come as a pair in the box so it was a good value.

My Chiropractor thanks you!
5 Stars for the product, it was well worth the price. Now anybody can raise/lower the gate on my trailer. A flip of the foot and it is up! Same going down, just needs a little nudge. The instructions on the other hand could be written a lot better and maybe a few more pictures at key places would be helpful. I think someone who is not real handy would struggle with installation...but shouldn't be hesitant about getting the lift, it is great. Just ask the guy you were going to borrow the tools from anyway to give you a hand! :)

The lift aid works well. Getting the lift location on the tail-gate could have been explained better. Be prepared for lots of drilling.
Good luck, Ned

Why didn't I think of this. It works great. I have a Beefed up tailgate that weighs a lot and this lift has no trouble lifting it. 2 fingers really is all you need.

The Gorilla Lift was relatively easy to install. I did have a little issue with one of the upright supports on my trailer. One of the bolts in the gorilla lift frame was supposed to be installed directly over one of the vertical steel uprights. I had to change the hole location in the Gorilla Lift frame to accommodate this. That was the only issue and it was pretty easy to fix. The tailgate on my trailer is 50" high but must be fairly light in comparison to some tailgates since I had to use just one of the springs on each side of the lift. With both springs engaged on both sides, the tailgate would not go down and stay down. Once I released one of the springs on each side, it works well. I don't even have to bend over to pick it up. I just put my toe under the gate and lift it up. VERY EASY. I really like this lift. Works great and looks good on the trailer as well.
