"Before my wife insisted that I buy & install an automatic gate opener I thought it was completely unnecessary. Now that we've had the Mighty Mule Single Gate Opener for around 6 years I would never want to do without it. Our gate is at least 75 feet from our front door, so not only do we appreciate the remote opener during the frequent rain storms, but also when letting guests or tradespeople in and out of the yard without having to go stand by the gate while they drive through.

We originally bought a smaller Mighty Mule which gave up after a couple of years, but received credit on it when replacing it with the current larger model. Have had no problems with it (knock on wood).

Installation is straight-forward. Hardest part for me was burying the low voltage line from an outlet near the house to the gate battery."

"Installation was a very simple 2-person job. The DVD was exceptionally helpful, and we watched it several times before and reviewed a couple of times during the process. We should have gotten a 2nd opener the day we were in the store, but ordered one with no problem. We hooked ours up to a solar trickle charger and use a marine batter backup for cold weather. Gate operates smoothly, and the transmitter reaches quite a ways off so that the gate is open by the time we need to drive through it."

"This is the second mighty mule i have owned. The fist one was destroyed when a tree fill on it. The new one has been improved and made safer. They are easy to install.I had to return my new opener to the factory because lighting struck it. They repaired it and got it back to me within a week. The people at mighty mule are great to deal with and charged a fair price to fix the damaged opener."

"This gate really worked. I liked it a lot better when I bought the solar battery. The only downside was my 17 year old felt it opened to slow. Mind you he would leave to school 4 seconds before he had to be there. It seldom got stuck with the solar battery.
I'd buy it again for sure."

"A neighbor and I installed the Mighty Mule Opener, including solar panel, in less than two hours. The instructions, especially those on the CD_ROM, were uncommonly clear and useful. We have only had the opener running for about two months now, but so far it has proven to be very reliable. We've not had a single problem. The remote transmitters work effectively from several hundred feet away (unobstructed)."

"The Mighty mule has been a great purchase. I added the sensor for automatic opening> The installation was easy except the sensitivity for the the automatice opener was factory set very high and big trucks running down the road would cause it to open, corrected once I installed the sensitivity control. The only complaint was the noise the gate made opening, there is no grease inside the piston(screw) and it was loud, I corrected by opening the unit and adding axle grease. The factory should add lubricant to save the consumer the trouble."

"A very nice product I have a 15'5" gate made from top rail and 4' fance with center supports and cables the mity mule fm 350 moves it with no problem. It comes with all the hareware that is needed to mount on just about eneything . It took some time to set the stop points and get all mounted, but now the three of our friends have one on there gates also."

"Well worth the money! The reviewer that said it was too slow?... It cycles from closed to open, or vice versa, in 15 to 17 seconds. Time yourself next time it is pouring down rain and storming and see how long you take. It really doesn't matter if you have to wait a few seconds for the convenience of push-button open and closing. I also bought the driveway sensor. It works like a champ. Even senses my motorcycle. The installation is a piece of cake. The DVD and the instruction book tell you everything you need. Read the instruction book ahead of time."

If you download the installation manual you will find on page 10 Technical Specifications. The opener is powered by a 12 VDC marine battery. Battery charge is maintained from one of two methods. A 120VAC, 18VAC output indoor transformer connected to the opener OR a solar panel sold by GTO. The transformer can not be located more than 1000 feet of wire away from opener.
There are no instructions for powering the opener without a battery. To ensure you will not void your warranty you should call 800 543 1236 and tech support can answer your questions.

This item includes the transformer, but still uses the battery. The battery must be used along with the transformer. You cannot use the transformer alone.
