"If you have heavy duty skidding to do, this is it. These tongs are meant for the big stuff, up to 32 inches in diameter and they're heavy. So, if you want equipment that's meant to be used daily, this will do it. If your looking for a tool to get a few small trees out of the pasture or yard, get the small one. This one needs two people, one to set the tongs and one to take up slack with whatever your doing the pulling with. These are professional heavy duty."

"I needed to pull logs out of a deep ditch. With one guy working toe top of the bank the tractor and me below, It took no ime to grab the logs and pull them out. Before this I had to tie ropes and of course untie ropes. Thie is a true time saver."

Logs and Rocks,

"I own 18 acres in the Colorado high country that the former rancher "chained" back in the 1960's. This resulted in a number of felled trees covering the land (mostly Juniper that haven't rotted in our high desert environment) . I purchased two sets of the tongs to use with a chain and my front loader or 3-point boom to retrieve the trees in the rough terrain. I have also picked up a number of boulders in the 300 to 600 pound range and moved them to a location where I could then use my front loader. Sometimes it's a challenge to get the tongs to bite into the boulders; but, it sure beats rolling them by hand or trying to use a hand truck. Well worth the investment for my application."

"Excellent quality log tong. I use these tongs to lift blocks of wood to heavy to move by hand, into my log splitter for cutting into fire wood. Very safe and helpful. Saves the back and arms. I use 2 sets of tongs for picking logs up off the ground for carrying and cutting into blocks. Keeps dirt off logs which is easier on chainsaw. Very useful item."

"I like these tongs , durability and robust. A little dull on the points but they still work well on larger (20" and bigger) logs . I use mine on a home built skidding arch. They are easy to attach and remove."

"I've been using these for almost 2 years, I've pulled more than 100 trees using a small copmpact tractor, For the price and for basic homeowners who cut there own wood I dont think you could buy a better pair. I've had a few slip out, But less than 2% of what I hook comes out."

Chinese imitation does not measure up,

"I bought these for moving some large logs after using a couple professional pair on previous projects. These things are useless in any serious work environment. I thought I knew how to make them work better than a few other reviewers only to suffer the same fate.

First the points are not sharp as with most tools and need to be sharpened to even have a chance at working. There are two reasons these do not work as well and most have identified that the points are not at the angle as shown in the picture. The bigger problem is the geometry at the lifting ring. These work like giant ice tongs and as the load increases, the tongs are drawn together. This is all governed by the top links and the lifting ring. By their design, these do not generate as much biting force making it easy for them to slip out - especially if you are not moving large logs that keep them spread open which raises the force on the top links.

The biggest problem is how thin they are at the hinge joint. If you look at the picture, you will see how much they flattened the steel out in this region. I did not notice this at first and paid the price for it when I was moving logs in my field. When I turned around, the log put a sideways load against them and bent them beyond repair. I have never had this problem with the other tongs that are built much more substantial than these.

The two man job with a hammer should not be necessary if these were built correctly. I have used better pairs that I can pick up logs at will and move them without ever getting off the tractor. These are junk and you spend far more time messing with them than just using a chain.

If you are trying to get a fair bit of work done, don't mislead yourself like I did. Buy something else."

"This skidding tong will not grip a log of any size. The points are not sharpened, 3/16 dia. points, and they are not angled properly to grab hold of anything except maybe a play clay log."
