Is it UL approved and are the set back distances the same if you do not have the blower on?

This wood stove is UL listed. The clearance measurements are with the blower installed. They would be the same with or without the blower attached.

The instructions pertaining to the installation of your wood stove comply with ULC-S627
and UL-1482 standards.
I take that as a yes, as long as the woodstove is installed according to the manual.
I would not run the woodstove without the blower and feel that as an owner of this Drolet Myriad, the wall clearances are a minimum. I suggest more protection where ever possible, and suggest closing down the front damper and installing a magnetic temperature gauge at 18 inches above the stove top surface in order to maintain a temperature of 300 to 500 degrees Farenheit. Cold fires produce creosote buildup, and hot fires are dangerous, so take out the guesswork with a simple gauge to measure the heat going up the pipe.

The owners manual says the stove is verified and tested according to UL standards. Blower is not mentioned as affecting set back distances.

I'm a little confused with chimney pipe clearances

Details:

The manual states that the 'F' dimension for double pipe is 28.9" from wall. My contractor tells me it can be 6" away from wall if using double pipe. That's quite a difference. Can you tell me who's right, before I start cutting holes?

When using double wall pipe for the wood stove, the clearance dimensions to combustibles are 6" to the back, 24" to the sides and 17" to the corners.

To be safe its probably better to have a professional install something as important as a woodstove.You would nt want to smoke up the house or catch it on fire, spending a little extra even in these tough times outweighs the risk of losing everything or possibly a loved one....

If your contractor was in my house right now, he would say to move it away from the walls, regardless of what he knows. I have been burning wood for 36 years, and it's this particular STOVE that gets hot, way hotter than you would want if you accidentally load too much in it. It can hold 3.1 cubic feet. You will be trying to cool this one down all the time it you don't be careful. It makes no difference what pipe you choose, your stove will get HOT, HOT. I own one and I am telling you to go buy the Canadians who wrote the book on this one, because they know, and now I do. Don't play with fire, the Drolet Myriad puts out heat!
And lastly, the INSULATED pipe does not assist in heating up the room, causing one to load more wood which makes the stove itself hotter, and therefore, the manual requires you to have even more clearance from the walls.
They also recommend at least 78 inches from the bottom of the stove to the ceiling, and prefer to use as much STEEL pipe as possible in this space to allow the pipe to give off heat for efficiency and safety.

Double wall pipe can be six inches. That picture is used with single wall. Your clearances are different with double and triple wall pipe...you are ok with 6 inches. That's where mine is at. It warms up a little bit but not enough to really get scared

This is the link to the manual, see page 16-18 mainly, but I would think your situation makes it easier since you have higher ceilings which allow for more steel pipe which is a recommendation of at least 78 inches from base of stove to ceiling. The shingled roof makes it easier to keep the rain away from the pipe than a rippled metal roof. I wish I had those features.
Read a little bit from the manual link above, and you will find lots of good stuff. The second page has the table of contents, and it's really well written.
You should not jump ahead on the pages as they are written in a sequence.

Not hard at all. I have the same exact set up. Vaulted ceiling and everything. The real question is if your going out the ceiling or the wall. It's much easier to go through the ceiling. I installed this very same stove in my mobile home.

Ceramic tile, if installed properly can reduce clearances by as much as 67%. There is section on reduced clearances, starting on page 12 in the owners manual for this stove that describes specific installation conditions and the amount that they will reduce the clearance. Please refer to the product manual located at the bottom of the product page in .pdf format to find the clearance for your specific conditions. Please note that tile is not considered as non-combustible if it is mounted directly on a combustible surface.

Answers

The Myriad is only available with the pedestal style. The glass door measures 15 3/16" wide x 11 1/4" tall. Northern also offers the Drolet escape that has the queen anne legs.

What you see is the ashpan itself. It's removable.
Scrape ashes from the firebox through a hole in the firebox floor, into the ashpan. Then pull out the ashpan and empty.

I would recomend a generic magnetic thermastat that you put on the chimeny that reads from 100 deg to 500 or there abouts, if your chimney gets above 425 it is probibly on fire. Mine runs about 250 275 wide open

There is no thermostat, as far as I can ascertain. Certainly, my stove isn't so equipped.
They do, however, recommend a generic, magnetic thermometer be placed 18" up on the smoke pipe to enable monitoring of the exhaust gasses. They recommend 250 - 500 degrees.

Yes, this stove is UL listed and could be installed under a roof out doors. Keep in mind that exposure to the elements could cause rust, or other cosmetic defects.

Yes the stove is UL approved, I would not recomend leaving the door open unless you get a metal mesh screen used in fireplaces, it will pop and crack, thus spuing hot coals everywhere

Super heater This is one great stove. Heats 1500 Sq. House with ease. One thing I recommend is the fresh air vent from the outside. Drolet makes a complete kit for their stoves. Using the fresh are kit eliminates the smoke and the dust in the house, which you get from any wood stove. It also helps with the burning. You can fill this stove for the night at 10 pm, cut the stove back, and when you wake at 6am you will still have hot coals to start the day. You do need good, dry wood for any wood stove to perform well. Have a blessed day. John March 27, 2013

Great deal Our first wood stove and I bought because of the reviews.....It arrived in perfect condition, very heavy duty...it feels like a solid peice of steel. Because I do not live any where near a northern tool I had it shipped.....to compare the size of the stove I went to lowes any sized up one of their stoves with the myraids demensions. Once hooked up the stoved fire right up and with only a few small peices it heated the house quickly........I would buy this product again in a heart beat.......good luck! February 27, 2013

Nice and HOT I own a 2,100 sq foot home. I was tired of buying oil and dealing with the price games. I canceled my oil delivery and installed my myriad wood stove a few weeks ago. So far the weather in NJ hasn't been to cold lows in the teens since I've installed the stove. So far the stove warms my house up to the mid 70's with a small fire. The burn off smell gets to me after a while and had to keep the window open for the first 6 fires or so. Other then that the mayriad keeps us warm and cozy so far. The stove produces a lot of heat with a small amount of seasoned oak wood. I will check back in and let you know how the winter goes once it gets cold out. No more oil games to deal with !!! Drolet Great wood burner. I have had a lot of wood stove experince in my lifetime. I have found that this stove will hold the fire for a long period of time. If you know what you are doing.If you don't then your install is not right or you don't know what you are doing. This stove does evreything advertised. I can get the 8-12 burn time on seasoned wood everytime. I like the glass door it smokes up a little but its wood burning it smokes. i would say that if you are goin to buy a stove this is the one to get. i plan on using this for a long time. Fantastic Stove! I have had many wood stoves over the years, some were brand names. This stove by far has beat them out! It puts out a lot of heat with very little wood! It heats my 2 1/2 car garage easily. The air wash system is wonderful. It seems to be made well and overall it is a great purchase. The blower works well also. It is not that noisy overall. I had delivery to the store and the stove was in perfect shape when I went to get it, not a ding! You can't go wrong with this stove if heat is what you need! October 9, 2012

Great stove Just got done installing the stove fired it up to burn it off boy this is nice with the small fire I had in it to burn it off the heat was GREAT 7 small logs and burned for 8 hrs. This should heat this 1800 ft house great this winter and many more to come very well built. the glass door is nice September 16, 2012

Home Handyman Started this stove for the first time, May 9th.2012. Very satisfied with the initial burn in. This stove is replacing a Fisher-Baby Bear & it did a excellent job but was not efficient in that you had to put wood in every two and half hours. No doubt in my mind that this stove will heat my 1800 sq. foot home easily & have a run time of 8 to 12 hours. Familiarize yourself with the directions that come with the stove and enjoy clean wood heat in the coming winter's. Looking forward to the next winter. Did a lot of Research before choosing this model & Northern Tool & Equipment had the best price & is a great place to do business with. 5 Star Rating with me! May 11, 2012

4 star this stove would probably work really well in a large family room where the heat doesn't have to travel. it needs an outer housing on the stove so the blower is effective, most heat felt is from the door. make sure to build a good chimney-didn't expect a chimney to cost that much. i used it in a basement and had to run a fan to move the hot air around. i never could get 12hr burn time. i use large ash for wood and wish it had a shaker grate. i needed something this season b/c propane cost is so high but this stove will probably go to garage after i build my outdoor boiler. Great purchase After two winters in North Central PA we decided to find and alternate heat source to lighten the fuel oil cost we had been burdened with. Deciding to go with the Drolet woodstove was one of the best decision we have ever made. This stove quickly heats our 1600 square ft ranch home very nicely. The glass is a bit of a pain to keep clean to maintain a nice view of the burning fire. I would suggest this product for anyone looking for a well built wood stove to heat their home.
