First sander I ever bought
This Makita was the first sander I ever bought and I have pretty much worn it out.
Attaching the sandpaper to the machine is quite difficult at times and you are unable to get the paper stretched across the pad as tight as you'd like. Also the clawed teeth that hold the sandpaper loosen up over time, causing the paper to become loose.
The noise level is probably the worst complaint I have. This sander is the noisiest one I have ever seen, used, or bought.
The dust collecting bag is practically worthless and have always wondered why it even has a bag because it just throws dust EVERYWHERE.
If you are in the market for a sander, look elsewhere. Grab a Porter Cable, Hitachi, or even a Festools if you have the cash!

Dependable
Over all this is a dependable tool that gets the job done. I've had a couple other sanders in the past and this is the best of all of them. My one complaint is the dust collection bag seems to get plugged up fairly easily without being completely full.

Larry
I've owned the Makita palm sander for 10 years now. In that ten years is has done many a home improvement project without a single whimper. The dust bag is nice as it keeps the dust down when working in a semi finished area of the house though you have to empty it regularly. The dust collection system works very well and with the newer grades of sandpaper you can nearly finish a project without changing the paper. The sandpaper clamps are easy to use and the clamps hold the sandpaper securely. The tool is light weight which keeps the fatuige down and the vibration level won't put your hand to sleep. This sander is a delight to use.

MAKITA 1/4 SHEET SANDER
I have many sanders and all differant brands but I have owned and used this model sander for many years. It was one of my most often used tools in the finish sanding of my wooden boat repairs. I do however use other sanders when more aggresive removal is required, but this is a good sander. I like the little handles that fold out to let you change the paper even though they are sometimes stiff to get out, and the center of gravity is better than my taller ones that tend to flip over or tip up if you get carried away while sanding. I have not had to do any repairs to the sander over all these years except for the pad, and although it made a funny noise for a while after I dropped it overboard while sanding it is still running.
