Hobart Stickmate AC
Replaced an old Lincoln box with it. Good unit for my needs on the farm. Sticks two pieces of metal together just fine. It is only an AC unit which is okay for me but it seems to prefer 1/8" rods. I just can't seem to start and hold an arc on 3/32" rods though, no matter what setting I use.The variable current adjustment is sweet. Could use a heavier duty ground clamp, which I will upgrade, but I found that they all come with a cheap ground clamp now. Had some cosmetic shipping damage but the insides were okay.

Hobart welder
product is easy to use and holds up well. I have bilt a 25 by 30 shop and a carport useing pipe as my frame. never had a hip cup. bilt a deck frame before that with a cheep cracker box and had to stop every ten minutes to let it cool down. I have done other smaller projects since and has always meet the task. I do most of my repairs myself, most people that know me say if I can not fix it, it probably can not be fixed.

good to start out with
great for DIYer. i like the infinite adjsutment of the crank. It better than the old lincoln buzzboxes. My students use this daily with 6011 and 7014 and 7018 1/8" rods. we run 190 amps max with 5/32" 6011 works without a hiccup.

Hobart Stickmate Model# 500502
I have owned this welder for a couple of years and it has preformed perfectly on all my projects - gates, frames and racks. I purchased it based on other reviews and the Hobart reputation and I have not been disappointed. I was surprised to get this quality welder for such an excellent price. I have used a number of stick welders in my life and none outperformed this unit for the type and size of stock I weld.

Hobart Stickmate
I am very pleased with the Hobart Stickmate 205 amp welder. I had an older Miler. This welder is easier to use and is just fine for what i do, mainly hobbie and home repair chores.

In Class with Hobart Welders
We had a Lincoln AC welder for years and I wanted to teach the students the advantages of having a welder that was AC and DC. The real thing I like about the welder is that it is so easy to set, from the guide on top of the welder to dial and settings up front. The students can look to compare thickness of metal to the rod they should use and the different settings that would work for the rod and metal. So we purchased two.

Welder
Instead of buying a cheaper model, I spent a little extra and I am very happy that I did. This welder has saved me time and money numerous times. I have welded stuff from sheet metal to 1/4 inch thick metal with no problems. Very easy to use as long as you get the right welding rods for the job and use the correct amperage.

Hobart Stickmate AC Welder — 230 Volt, 205 Amp, Mo
The welder has been a nice addition to our farm. We use it in the shop and then can transport it and a small generator to remote sites very easily. In the past we had to hook up the welding trailer and move a big machine to where ever we were working. The work had to be a major project before we did that. The only draw back is that it may not be quite large enough for all applications.

Very good welder!
I once owned a Lincoln "buzzbox," and it served its purpose, and it's nearly worn out. The Hobart Stickmate AC welder is much better than the Lincoln, as it has continuously adjustable current, which isn't much of a problem when welding structural steel or something of that nature, but when one wants to weld something delicate, it make a lot of difference. Two thumbs up!
