i use mine outside because the panel is sealed so it gets more of the sun so its really up to you i guess. If your concerned about the rain, that won't hurt it. but if you have kids that might hit it with a baseball or rock that will break it. depends on your surroundings....

This charger will charge 12 volt batteries with any amp hour rating. The higher the Amp hour (Ah) rating of the battery, the longer it will take this charger to completely charge the battery.

They do have splash proof, conformal-coated circuitry that ensures trouble-free life even in high-moisture marine environments, but it must be mounted in an area where it can be easily seen, protected from the elements (direct rainfall), and bright sunlight (where it would be difficult to see the 3 LED status indicators). The Panel is made of tempered glass. It is able to withstand nature’s elements, including hale stones as large as 1-1/2” diameter at 60 miles / hours. However, it cannot stand up to a person’s weight, so do not mount it anywhere a person could accidentally step on it.

This BatteryMINDer is 19-1/2 inches long and 13-1/2 inches wide, it comes with the mounting hardware to mount it to a flat surface, it does not include a mounting bracket.

Be sure it is mounted to be orientated in a direction that will ensure maximum exposure to the sun.

The best place to mount this BatteryMINDer charging system is a location where there is maximum sunlight.

The angle of your solar panel should be determined by where you live, the best angle for your solar panels to be at is the angle of your latitude.

For example if your latitude is 46, then mount your panel at 46 degrees.

If your latitude is a negative value, you want to face your solar panels North.

If your latitude is a positive value, orientate your panels South.

Very handy for outbuildings I use the BatteryMINDer to keep my various lawn tractor batteries charged and ready to go. I mounted the solar panel on the gable of my workshop outbuilding, and it's been great! The desulphator feature has raised several old batteries from the dead, including my wife's old car battery, so I guess this product has paid for itself to a large extent. I also bought a pair of tool-less battery terminals (the kind with a cam lever for tightening) so it's quick and easy to switch the charger from one battery to the next, but a nice strong pair of alligator clamps would have been good too. I leave at least one battery on the charger at all times, and it's so convenient to always have a fresh one available. April 23, 2013

battery solar charger I really like this product because i don't like to have to jump start cars that i don't use a lot and it saves your battery. i have a few of these and i have no complaints about them one is on a car, one on a tractor, and one for a winch mounted on a car hauling trailer, all of these are not used very much but are ready for use when they are needed. An excellent stand alone solar charging system. This system has been working away for me for about 9 months now. There has been no problems whatsoever and it continues to do its job whatever the weather.It still puts out a charge when the sky is cloudy, I have it hooked up by itself rather than part of the main bank of panels as it excels as a booster to any really low bank of batterys that have been badly discharged. Solar Charging system This item is well constructed using decent aluminum channel for the frame. The desulfator works well at correcting issues with sealed lead acid batteries. (The batteries that I use are 12Vdc 12Amp Hour vented). These batteries were in service for approx 3 years and had little life left. The desulfator had actually corrected the issue with the batteries and they now hold a charge just like new. The wire length supplied is ample and the gauge is proper. This system is affordable for tinkering in the solar field. I would recommend to a friend. These would be great for Emergency communications backup power or just placing at the campsite to top up the batteries or run small portable devices. October 19, 2009

Great Product as Advertised . . . I use this charger on an RV deep cycle battery. The unit will not keep the battery charged if the battery is not disconnected from the RV (I installed a negative disconnect - the propane monitor and clocks on the radio and microwave draw more amp-hours than the 5 Watt unit can produce in a day). However, this is not the product's fault as it is only a 5 Watt unit. If you don't want to disconnect your RV battery, then you should consider the similar 15 Watt unit. For my application, the product works well. My battery is always fully charged when I reconnect. I've used the product for 2 years now trouble-free. I would highly recommend this or the similar 15 Watt unit (same charge controller). September 14, 2009

5W Solar Panel Product works on smaller batteries that have no load on them while charging. I tried to keep a maintenance charge on a deep cycle battery in a RV, but due to the small residual draw (100-200ma) it could not keep up. Worked well on maintaining a motorcycle battery. July 13, 2009
