A propane hose with a regulator isn't required because there are regulator knobs on the burner. However, it's a good idea to use one in the event that the hose breaks the hose's regulator will cut off the fuel. Please look below for a few options.

Yes, the three valves each control a different orifice, and a different section of the burner. The center valve controls the small circular center section of the burner. The right and left valves control the right and left semi-circular outer sections of the burner. Each section can and should be adjusted separately and independently for a clean blue flame. Then you can easily choose which section(s) you wish to use.

Yes, one controls the center ring, one the left half of the big ring, the other the right half. You can really dial in the temp on this thing.

Yes, there are 3 burner rings (inner, outer, and middle rings), each controlled by its own valve. Each ring also has an air adjustment screw to adjust the quality of the flame (blue flame with slight yellow tipping).

Stove works fine, brass adjusters work fine.
There are spring loaded adjustment screws in the manifold. How do these work? How do I adjust them? What color flame should I go for?

The burner should operate with a blue flame, with a slight yellow tipping. If the flame sputters, excessively hisses, pops or burns with long flames, adjust the Air Screws.These are the screws that hold the springs in place. If this fails, check the burner ports and orifice to see if any object is obstructing gas flow.

You should set the three separate parts of the burner separately and one at the time. You turn on the gas and ignite the burner. Then you look at the flame. It should burn steadily, without lifting off of the burner. If it lifts off, you should adjust the flame control valve for either more fuel, or a bit less fuel. Then move to step two below:

2a) If it is a good blue color with very little yellow tipping to the flame, you are good to go.

2b) If it is smoky, or with a great deal of yellow to yellow-white tipping to the flame, you are running too rich a mixture. You can easily turn the spring-loaded knob in or out to break up the gas flow a bit so it can more readily mix with the incoming air.

3) If that does not result in a steady, deep blue flame with little yellow tipping, then you may need to adjust the little circular plate to allow more air or less air into the mixing chamber. Then you should repeat step 2 again.

That far above sea level, I bet your little air control plate needs to be wide open so more air/oxygen can be drawn in to mix with the LP gas.

You would not want to put a pot bigger than 60 quart. You would more than likely only put about 10 gallons of water in it so it would only be 80 pounds of water

The entire thing is cast iron with the obvious exception of the brass controls on the front. I fill my pot with 15 gallons of water for making beer. I never worry. It comes with some heavy duty screws for the base and has ridges where the legs meet the base so the weight is distributed.

Burner fuel burn efficiency – color of flame?

Outdoor propane cookstove burner Excellent product for use in providing a heat source from my DIY smokehouse. Unit is very sturdy and sits stable and level. The three valve burner controls are a big plus. Would definitely buy this product again. July 6, 2015

Works great, good price This is my second burner like this. The first was damaged during a move. I use these for home brewing and low country seafood boils. The burner provides plenty of BTU's for both purposes. It is well made from real iron, not stamped steel like some others. July 2, 2015

Propane Burner We are using this cooker for pressure cooking and finishing maple syrup. The fine adjustment of the flame is the main reason for purchasing. The size is perfect for table top cooking. It is sturdy and well built. Have not found anything we don't like about it. May 11, 2015

Heavy Duty, a useful product. I recently purchased this heavy duty single burner countertop propane stove because I was not very happy with my older single burner stove (no longer sold at Northern). The control valve on the older stove was just too touchy, making it very hard to control the flame at the exact temperature I wanted. It was also hard to get that stove to burn at a low enough temperature for some recipes. This stove is a much better product. It will burn much hotter than the other stove, but at the same time it will burn at a much lower temperature when desired. The secret to this has two parts. One: The gas control valves are a much tighter design, and easier to set, and Two: The burner has three sections, and each section can be controlled independently. By choosing only the section(s) of the burner you need, and by easy regulation of the control valves, you can pretty much get any temperature you need out of this burner. In addition, the castings are more heavy-duty than the older model stove, and will likely stand up to frequent or heavy use better. All in all, this is a better product. Remember, you should use a "low pressure" regulator and hose with this stove. It will provide more than enough gas flow for a good hot burn. Enjoy! April 17, 2015

Good value for the money As stated previously, the assembly hardware is bottom end but adequate. The valves are non-linear in that they are touchy when throttled down but unless you are a ham-fisted oaf not a big problem. As with any of these outdoor burners, wind affects them greatly. Overall I'm happy with the level of heat this can throw out. October 11, 2014
