Grip-On Tools 2,000-Lb. Pulley Hoist
pulley broke with first use
I bought this hoist some time ago to use for hoisting deer. I just used it a few days ago for the first time and had less than 200 lbs. to lift. It started out okay but before I got the total weight off the ground the rope got bound up because one of the plastic pulley wheels broke. It is rated for much more weight than I was attempting to lift but obviously it couldn't handle it. The plastic wheels are not good quality.

A Good Block & Tackle with Limitations
I have three of these Northern Pulley Hoists. I replaced the original lines with 1/4-inch braided nylon rope (soft, flexible). The rope should be at least 7X the length that you want to lift. Good methods of reeving the line through the blocks can be found in Wikipedia (Block & Tackle, Ext Ref 2). On all my pulley hoists, the nuts on the top and bottom pins of each block must be loose for the sheaves to spin. The nuts come off very easily. This may explain the blocks that fell apart. I have replaced those nuts with 1/4-20 Nylock nuts, tightening them until there was one thread still exposed. Also, I loosened slightly the nut on the sheave axle. I agree that the 2000-lbs rating is suspect. The mechanical advantage of this hoist can be useful if you understand its limitations.

just what the Dr ordered
Bought this to move a 325 lb tv down a flight of stairs to the basement. Hooked one end to a pipe set in the doorway as the anchor point, and the other end to a rope tied around the tv. My 16 year old daughter fed out the line as I guided it down. Worked like a charm!!
i read the previous reviews, so I made sure the pulleys nuts and bolts were secured before starting the job.
Only product improvement I would recommend, would be to make the line 100'. I had to run the line out of one of the pulleys to give me enough to reach the bottom of the stairs.
My dad had one of these back in the 70's so I knew just what to go looking for ! Thanks Northern Tool! Good product at a good price!!

I bought this to assist in hanging deer stands by myself. I thought it would be easier. While using it for the first time, all of the hardware came loose. The rope fell out of the pulleys and it came apart. It worked really good though when it was in one piece. Make sure to tighten all of the hardware before using it! Maybe use some lock-tite on them. Plus side is plenty of rope and many other uses.

I have had two of these break pulleys already, when this happens the pulley locks up, both times it was with a 180 to 200 lbs of load. I bought 6 of these hoists thinking they were going to be great but I am afraid to use them now.

I am 63 years old and I have a 65 lb. Kayak that I store above my wife’s car in the garage. Without this pulley system I could not lift it into position. With this amazing pulley hoist I can lift and secure the Kayak with very little effort. The system is compact and simple in design and reduces lift at a seven to one weight ratio (making my lifting less than 10 lbs). I showed it to my neighbor and he purchased one for his 90 lb. boat. A truly amazing hoist!

great product for the price
This pulley system is well made, very functional. The think the rope should have been thicker. This suited my needs to hoist deer while hunting.

great disposable hoist
I needed this hoist to lift 5 gallon buckets of heavy, wet material out of a pit. The pulley setup gave me enough advantage to be able to hoist buckets for a few hours at a time. Added to that, it was cheap enough to just throw it away once we were done.
Don't forget the chain and hooks you will need to rig the hoist to an overhead beam.
I used a quick release coupler to attach it to the buckets instead of the S hook that came with the kit.

I can not believe this hoist is rated at 2000lbs. Don't expect to lift that much using your hands. I would love to see someone lift 2000lbs with this using there hands. The rope is just to small. I would not try anything over 300lbs using just my hands. I hooked up to a hand brake winch. This works better and is safer. I hooked it up to the draw bar of my tractor with good results but have not lifted anything over 250lbs.

This was the exact pulley system I needed. Seem to be quality parts, well made, very functional. The rope is a little thin. This is not specifically a problem, but it's important to know what your needs are. If they are for light to medium weight projects, this should do just fine.
