Trailer Springs
Trailer springs are an essential part of providing the cushioning your trailer needs from the many bumps and vibrations encountered while towing. Leaf-style trailer springs are designed to help a trailer live up to its load-hauling capacity and provide the smooth transfer of a variety of load types and weights. Replacing broken or worn springs with a properly sized leaf spring can renew a trailer’s effectiveness and help make it road-ready again. Generally, leaf-style trailer springs are long, narrow metal plates that attach to the frame of a trailer and rest above or below the trailer’s axle. These springs come mainly in two popular types: double-eye springs and slipper springs. Choosing the proper size and style is very important and needs to be selected based on the axle weight rating of the trailer as well as the length and width dimensions of the spring. To find the recommended replacement spring, first, check the trailer axel for a sticker or plate that provides the weight rating. Next, remove the existing spring and measure it accurately for length and width requirements. Also, make sure to note the style (double-eye or slipper) and match the style with your replacement. Check the trailer springs if you notice excessive sagging while under load or excessive vibration, bouncing, or swaying while towing a load. Worn, broken or improperly sized or weight-rated springs can leave your trailer unprotected or misaligned, so finding the proper replacement is imperative. Fortunately, Northern Tool + Equipment offers a wide selection of trailer spring sizes and capacities that make it easy for you to find the perfect replacement trailer spring to match your trailer and towing needs.
